What is better for washing - gel or powder?
Housewives often wonder what is more profitable and better to buy for washing clothes? Traditional bulk powder and gel are in greatest demand. To find out which of these is most effective, consider the advantages and disadvantages of each type of product.
Powder is a universal cleaning agent that we are used to using. It most effectively removes stubborn stains; but the desired water temperature should not be below 70 degrees Celsius. In addition, the powder can be applied “by eye”; there is no need to use a measuring container, which is very convenient.
Another advantage is the affordable price. The downside is, of course, the friability. After washing, it is noticeable everywhere - on the machine, on the floor, in the cabinets. It is quite difficult to use such a product carefully; you need to be prepared for a little cleaning. Another consequence of the loose consistency is dust, which rises into the air, polluting it, and can cause allergies. Also, after washing, some powders leave marks on the drum that need to be further cleaned.
Advantages and disadvantages
- removes difficult stains
- relatively low price
- you can measure the approximate amount
- may cause allergies if released into the air
- the powder remains in the bathroom wherever possible
- may ruin the fabric
- Warm or hot water is needed for washing
- packaging takes up a lot of space
Gel is a softer detergent than powder. It gently removes dirt without damaging the fabric. The gel also allows you to effectively wash things in cold water and practically does not cause an allergic reaction. It's easy to store and doesn't take up as much space in your bathroom cabinet. At the same time, in order to spill it, you need to try. Most manufacturers provide a special lid that not only measures the required amount of product, but also protects the gel bottle from spilling.
There is no need to clean the drum additionally, since the gel dissolves perfectly in water without leaving any traces. Among the disadvantages, it should be noted the relatively high cost and poor ability to cleanse stubborn stains.
Advantages and disadvantages
- gentle removal of dirt
- Some brands of gels can be used with cold water
- does not cause allergic reactions
- compact packaging
- convenience and ease of use
- the presence of a lid on which you can clearly measure the amount of gel
- always clean bathroom as there is nothing to wake up
- high price
- does not remove stubborn stains
- it is important to dose so as not to spoil things
What are the different types of washing gels?
The type of washing gel can be found on the packaging. Typically, the manufacturer indicates all the necessary information directly on the front side of the label. The following types of this product are presented on the Russian market:
- Universal . Suitable for all types of fabrics, effectively removing light and even complex stains from them. They need to be washed in warm water from 30 degrees.
- For light fabrics . Also suitable for whites. This gel contains optical brighteners. They reflect sunlight and artificial light, thereby eliminating the yellowing effect. This product will help extend the life of light-colored items as long as possible.
- For colored linen. The main property of this washing gel is to preserve the rich color of fabrics and prevent them from fading or changing shades.
- For children's clothing. Children's gels have the safest and least aggressive composition. They do not contain fragrances or caustic surfactants, which prevents the risk of developing allergies in babies.
- For black things. This product is also suitable for washing expensive items. Its peculiarity is that it does not wash out the color, does not make it faded or washed out (which is very difficult for dark things).
- For winter clothes. As a rule, winter jackets and down jackets are washed with such gels. Due to the lanolin in the composition, the fluff inside does not get lost and after washing the clothes have their original neat appearance.
- For delicate washing. This product will work perfectly with capricious fabrics, such as silk, linen and satin. It is also suitable for washing underwear and swimwear.

"Persil" is a popular brand
The manufacturer of this gel has developed a formula that combines softness and effective cleansing. Moreover, it contains only safe substances, so theoretically the product can also be used for children's clothing. "Persil" instantly begins to act in water and dissolve contaminants.

The fabric does not become rough and remains soft until the next wash. Experienced “users” in their reviews recommend using this gel at relatively high temperatures. This is how complex caustic stains are washed off most effectively.

It is important to note that after washing the fabric retains its original color and does not lose its brightness. The texture remains the same.

Consumers note that thanks to this gel, jeans and, in general, dark clothes stop fading.

Moreover, the gel softens the water, so you can additionally save on the purchase of additional products. The product's components do not contain caustic bleaches or phosphates, so the risk of developing allergies is minimal. Notes on washing
- All tested gels wash cotton much better at 60 degrees than at 40. This is predictable, because the higher the water temperature, the better the quality of washing, regardless of the detergent. 60 degrees is the optimal temperature for everyday washing. The 95 degree mode is necessary only in certain cases, which we describe in detail in this material.
- One of the examination participants did not pass the blue gouache stain test. When washed with Meine Liebe at 40 degrees, all the white fabric in the machine was uniformly colored blue. A similar situation occurred with Meine Liebe when washed at 40 degrees. At 60 degrees there were no problems with either the powder or the gel.

The best gels for washing children's clothes
"Eared Nanny" - safe gel for children
When buying a detergent for children's clothes, it is important that it meets all quality criteria and standards. And for such a category of goods, the requirements are strict and even exaggerated, but they have fully passed the test.
The gel does not irritate the child’s mucous membranes and does not provoke the development of allergies. An examination carried out by Roskontrol showed that the product copes relatively well with removing stains that children can leave. For example, traces of juice, paints, plasticine, markers and pens have completely disappeared. But, at the same time, the gel itself is poorly washed out of the fabric.
During the study, experts performed three rinses in a row, but residual surfactants still remained in the fabric.

At the same time, the formula allows the product to produce a sufficient amount of foam to cleanse tissues. The manufacturer recommends using the washing gel in warm water from 30 to 60 degrees.

The fact is that the product copes well with stains from plasticine, pens, pencils and markers, but stains from juice and paints are more difficult to remove. Detergent Persil Color Gel concentrate
This is not a review. This is a tale about my everyday torments. I’ve been suffering for a week now with this Persil Color Gel laundry gel and there’s no end in sight to my (and my washing machine’s) torment... But first things first:
User Specifications:
Persil Color Gel laundry detergent (gel for colored items) is something gel-like, turquoise in color, transparent in appearance.
The bottle has a fairly convenient cap, from which it is equally convenient to pour the product into a special container (attached to the bottle), which has a scale in milliliters. It would seem... what else is needed? It’s easy to use, convenient, measure out the required amount for yourself with this cup and get clean things from the machine... but no... we only dream of peace.
By the way, this plastic container is placed together with the gel directly in the machine before washing. It’s also convenient, you don’t need to pour anything anywhere... for me this is especially important, because my machine is under the countertop and the compartment for detergents is short, you can pour it in (or pour powder), but I regularly miss it, because the compartment is made of It doesn't show much underneath the countertops.
Why did I buy this laundry detergent? Yes, simply because lately powders have been clumping unpleasantly and are difficult to rinse out of products. And in general, liquid products do not need to be dissolved - they are already “dissolved”, for some reason this calms me down.
EFFICIENCY:
Persil Color Gel for washing colored items foams terribly... really - scary. All my friends who have ever bought it complained about this (although I asked them after purchasing the gel, unfortunately). And because of this foaming, things have to be rinsed additionally... thus, the washing machine can work all day if there are several washes.
And I did not exceed the specified dosage of the gel!!! Moreover, after the first wash with this gel, when I saw (pouring into a dispenser jar) the prescribed 15 ml, I began to constantly reduce the “dose”. Today I use only a maximum of 5 ml of product for washing and still the foam does not rinse out completely... I have to turn on the wash again (or an additional rinse) for the second round, but without the Persil Color gel.
All these wonderful tricks of the gel probably make it a very economical product to use, but for some reason its such economy gives me a nervous tic attack. The car is also shaking when I approach it with a jar of Persil gel.
Of course, there is one nuance, how not to have such problems... For example, if you load the machine to capacity (that is, at least 5 kg of laundry or things... well, or who has the maximum allowable = 7 kg) and pour about 10 ml into it (and better = 7 ml or less), then the problem disappears by itself. You can’t wait for so much foam when the drum is full... But the main problem is that I DO NOT have that much dirty junk, and I don’t like accumulating it in order to fill the machine with 5-7 kg in one day.
Moreover, I tried to wash less often and accumulate more things to wash... because I can’t solve the problem with foaming in any way... I didn’t succeed, because I need to not only accumulate bed linen, but also store it somewhere... And If you consider that at the same time you also need to store somewhere a bunch of children’s clothes, which also require washing and a whole handful gets dirty every day... and then my husband has enough things and mine also get dirty... then it turns out that for storing dirty junk I need to dedicate at least half of the bathroom or have a separate storage room for this.
But even with all this, I won’t be able to put 5-7 kg of laundry into the machine, simply because ALL of the listed items cannot be put in one wash at the same time... they, you know, are of different colors, different materials (among them there are even o - miracle, wool, silk, cotton) and most of them are something stretchy, and also require a separate washing mode and a separate washing temperature. So, even though I will allocate the entire pantry for storing linen, I will still have to wash in small portions and Persil will still cowardly and uncontrollably form a bunch of foam that cannot be washed out of things.
By the way, everyone, of course, has their own ideas about a small number of things, and therefore, in order not to look completely crazy, I will clarify: I DO NOT wash a pair of socks separately and DO NOT spin a single shirt in the machine. Of course, during one wash in the machine, at least several shirts and a whole set of double bed linen suffer... and Persil still foams and does not rinse out. I constantly observe a foam cloud right in front of my nose, at the bottom of the drum. This cloud sticks to the car hatch and flaunts there without hiding anywhere.
Blaming the machine for not rinsing well or not drawing enough water is incorrect, it is new, behaves perfectly and there are no problems with water. In addition, other detergents did not do this unless they suffered from excessive foaming themselves.
Oh yes... I forgot... if you accumulate several sets of laundry for one wash and thus reduce the foaming of "Persila", then excuse me, WHERE will I dry it? Maybe, in addition to Persil, I should also buy a clothes dryer for each room? or the old-fashioned way, like my grandmother’s, to curtain the entire balcony and loggia with ropes and dry it all there? well... for the sake of Persil, you have to wash a bunch at once... and then solve the problem of placing all this pure junk.
Now about preserving the color of things: Persil Color Gel washing gel is stated for colored things... During all the time I used it, I never noticed that it somehow retained color. The color of the products (as well as the brightness of the colors) fades absolutely in standard mode. No more and no less than with many other laundry detergents. It seems to me that even despite Persil Color, paints can fade and wash out simply from washing itself... regardless of whether a color preservation agent is used or not. Because washing wears things out and all housewives know about this if they at least sometimes watch this process.
Quality of washing: I receive things clean from the machine... no complaints here. It even seems to me that they are cleaner than the powder, the annoying advertising of which constantly guarantees me an untold purity that I never noticed.
But still, this purity is not ideal. For example: this gel does not wash children's clothes soiled while eating vegetables (in particular, broccoli... and WITHOUT adding oil). Stains still remain on clothes. In addition, these are fresh stains... that is, I ate, got dirty, immediately removed and sent to wash. And for some reason Persil Color cannot cope even with such stains. Although they are fresh, not worn out and not oil-berry-wine-tea (I’ll also note that a bib worn during feeding does not always save from these stains... and sometimes the child pulls it off altogether and does not want to sit in it at all bib).
Persil removes some common stains normally. But I personally don’t have very dirty things, so I can’t say how well it copes with heavy dirt.
In addition, the Persil Color Gel laundry detergent has such a strong, chemically-intrusive aroma that no additional rinsing destroys it. Of course, it might be nice that things smell like detergent... it's definitely better than the aroma of stale clothes. But since the things do not have the smell of cleanliness, but the aroma of a detergent (more precisely, its fragrance), I am not sure that the gel from the things has been rinsed properly. But, you know, I live an uncomfortable life when there is no confidence. I don’t want to breathe this, I don’t want it on my skin and I don’t want to suffer from poor health due to household chemicals coming into close proximity to my body.
To be fair, it should be noted that by turning on the “Baby Clothes” washing mode, and then additionally after this washing cycle by turning on the “extra rinse”, things hardly smell of “Persil”. For reference: the “Baby Clothes” wash cycle lasts exactly 2 hours and 30 minutes. Additional rinse duration = 30 minutes. That is, by spending (no more or less) just 3 hours on washing children's clothes, you can get things that do not scent the air with “persil.” Oh yes... at the same time, you need to use no more than 5 ml of gel to wash a couple of kilograms of children’s clothes (maximum... sometimes I don’t get more than 2 kg per day, and often only 1.5 kilograms).
RESULTS:
I think I'll find better uses for my money. Surely on the household chemicals market for this money you can find something that is not so problematic to use.
But I’ll press the “recommend” button simply because there are people who don’t wash their clothes every day and this “Persil” may well be suitable for them... Because it washes no worse than others and is used economically. And it is quite capable of being normal if a fair number of kilograms of things are loaded into the drum of the machine (and sufficient for Persil). Well, of course, if these things can be washed in one heap and they do not require washing separately from each other.
But its brother washes the same way, but does not smell so aggressively and does not cause such torment with use.
Sorry there are so many letters. Thank you for reading to the end.
Rules of application
Often, buyers incorrectly use washing gels, resulting in damaged items and large financial costs. Since this is a relatively new and modern method of cleaning laundry from dirt, not everyone has had time to adapt to it. In fact, as always, there are no secrets. All you need is to dose the product correctly and pour it into the right compartment.
Most models of automatic washing machines have a special compartment for liquid detergents. You can determine it by the symbol on the case or look in the instructions. Usually this “container” is located in the middle and o.
If you use a concentrate rather than a liquid gel, then you need two to three times less of it than the gel, and you only need to fill it in at the rinsing stage.
If you use the gel in capsules, then put the product directly into the drum with the laundry.
A regular gel in a bottle always has a cap that allows you to dispense liquid. One full lid is enough for one full drum wash. For light contamination, half will be enough. With a product in polyethylene (and such packaging is also common on the market) it is more difficult. It is advisable to buy a small measuring cup for them. Hand washing requires from 1/4 to 1/2 cap, depending on the degree of soiling of the laundry.
Which one is more profitable to buy?
- The most affordable gels: Ariel, BiMax, Losk, Tide, “Eared Nanny”, Synergetic. They have approximately the same cost per wash (12-15 rubles). The most budget-friendly of them is Synergetic.
- The cost of one wash with Persil will be 27 rubles. Not the most profitable option. The situation is a little better with BioMio - 18 rubles per wash. However, this sample cannot boast of ideal efficiency.
- Amway will cost twice as much - about 40 rubles per wash, although its consumption is small. However, the product did not demonstrate any advantages compared to other samples. That is, its cost is not justified in any way.
- The most expensive (more than 50 rubles per wash) and at the same time the least effective washing gel is Miene Liebe . It has a high consumption: the manufacturer recommends adding 120 milliliters of gel when washing (most competitors have 60-65 milliliters), and the container volume is only 800 milliliters.

Criteria for choosing a washing gel
- Manufacturer . Choose trusted brands that you often hear about and can find reviews on the Internet. So, all the gels that were listed in our rating are of high quality and safe. These manufacturers can be confidently trusted.
- Package . Check the integrity and tightness of the gel bottle, the protection against the first opening cannot be broken. The label must be of high quality and well printed in order to clearly and in detail study the information from the manufacturer. If all these requirements are not met, then most likely the product has lost its properties or is defective.
- Compound . The product cannot contain phosphates and aggressive surfactants. It is also advisable to avoid synthetic fragrances. All these substances can provoke allergies and skin irritation. Give preference to products made from natural extracts and essential oils. Pay attention to the presence of emollients, polymers and enzymes. They keep things looking neat for as long as possible and effectively remove dirt.
- Purpose . The range of washing gels is famous for its wide variety. On the shelves you can find universal products for white, black, colored and children's clothes. Think about which one you need at the moment. Of course, buying a universal product is the most rational and expedient solution.
- Price . The middle price segment, as a rule, shows excellent results in washing clothes. Remember that a high price is not always an excuse for better quality. As a rule, the manufacturer simply takes money from consumers for its “name.” Too low a price indicates a fake and low quality product.
