An indispensable assistant in the fight against old stains on clothes, or what does the pre-wash program mean?

Equipped with many useful functions, the automatic washing machine simplifies and speeds up the difficult process of washing dirty laundry.
But among all the variety of work programs, few people pay attention to the “Pre-wash” option.

What does pre-wash mean, what is its purpose and how to use this program correctly we will tell you in more detail.

Where to put what in the washing machine?

But many people don’t know where to put the stain remover. The product is poured into the same container as the washing powder. The stain remover comes off easily when washing. Using a stain remover is an opportunity to remove stains from any item.

Washing before washing

Pre-washing is often compared to soaking. However, this is not a completely fair comparison. This mode replaces manual washing of clothes. It is used if things are very dirty or have stubborn stains. For example, when you need to wash work clothes, a tablecloth accidentally spilled with drinks, or children's pants in which the child fell into a puddle.

Intelligent programs

  • FUZZY LOGIC - the presence of this program indicates that the automatic washing machine can itself analyze the water hardness and type of laundry, allowing you to use electricity and water consumption as economically as possible.
  • AQUASTOP - this function allows the washing machine to control possible water leaks, warning its owner about it in time.
  • Balancing control. If the products are unevenly placed in the drum, an automatic machine with this function will turn on reverse speed to properly distribute the load.
  • Foam control. During the rinsing process, this function monitors the presence of foam in the drum, which ultimately allows you to thoroughly rinse the washed items from detergent.

Detergents and powder tray (Indesit IWUB 4085 (CIS) F062915)

Tray with compartments for distributing detergents and additives.

Excess detergent does not guarantee more effective washing. If there is an excess of powder, plaque may form inside the Indesit IWUB 4085 (CIS) F062915 washing machine.

! Do not use powders or other detergents for hand washing, as they create too much foam and worsen the washing result, otherwise the Indesit IWUB 4085 (CIS) F062915 washing machine may be damaged. Remove the dispenser and place the detergent or additive into it in the following order.

1 Tray compartment: detergent (powder) is used for pre-washing. But first, before loading the powder, make sure that compartment 4 for bleach is not installed in it.

2 Tray compartment: This is where laundry detergent (liquid or powder) is used. Before starting the Indesit IWUB 4085 (CIS) F062915 washing machine, you need to fill in the Liquid detergent.

3 Tray compartment: it contains Additives (fragrances, softeners, etc.) Do not fill the rinse aid compartment 3 above the limiter grid.

4 Additional tray compartment: Bleach and delicate bleach.

Whitening:

! Regular bleach is used when washing durable white fabrics;

! Delicate bleach is used for colored, synthetic and woolen fabrics.

Tray 4 for bleach is placed in compartment 1 of the detergent dispenser. Do not fill Tray 4 above the fixed max mark. To use bleach only, pour bleach into the optional insert 4 tray, select the Rinse program and turn on the Whitening function.

The use of an additional tray insert 4 eliminates the possibility of using a pre-wash.

To whiten during the washing process, add washing powder and softener, select the desired program and turn on the “Whitening” function.

In what cases should it not be used?

The Pre-Wash function is not recommended for:

  • especially delicate, thin fabrics,
  • hand knitted products,
  • cashmere,
  • wool - all those things on the labels of which there is a warning about the prohibition of active twisting and drying.

It is also not recommended to use the additional soaking option for heavily shedding items (such items must be washed very quickly, by hand).

Most Common Modes

Modern device models contain non-standard functions, but there are a number of cycles that can be found from all manufacturers:

CottonThis mode is suitable for bed linen and items made from cotton and linen fabrics.
Additionally, the temperature is set. It is recommended to wash white items at high temperatures, and for colored items that may fade, it is recommended to set it to no more than 40 degrees.

The laundry is rinsed in cold water and spinned at high speed.

SyntheticsSuitable for clothing made from synthetic and mixed fabrics. The temperature is usually 60 degrees. Spin at high speeds, the cycle lasts a long time.
Delicate or hand washIn this case, you won’t have to wash it by hand; the machine will do all the work. The drum turns slowly, the temperature is no more than 40 degrees.
The delicate wash cycle requires a weak spin, and with a manual wash it may not spin at all.

Suitable for thin items that easily deteriorate, fade, or tear.

Quick washAllows you to refresh things and remove light stains. Universal cycle, the most popular. Also saves water and electricity. The cycle lasts from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the unit.
IntensiveAllows you to remove difficult stains. Not suitable for clothing made from delicate materials. High temperature, extended time.
WoolA special cycle designed for woolen clothing. Characterized by a small amount of water and low speed. After such a cycle, things will not shrink or become covered in pellets.
SilkSpecial cycle for delicate silk fabrics.
PreliminaryThe cycle in this case is divided into 2 stages. First, the laundry is washed with powder at a temperature of 30-40 degrees, after which the standard procedure begins. Allows you to remove stains from heavily soiled items.
Extra rinse (hypoallergenic)The volume of water during rinsing has been increased, the temperature has been increased up to 60 degrees. As a result, the powder is completely washed out of things.
SoakBefore the main cycle, the laundry is soaked at a temperature of 30 degrees for about 1-2 hours. This helps remove tough stains more effectively, even from delicate fabrics.
SteamingSuitable for refreshing things and disinfecting laundry. The water is heated and turns into high temperature steam, which is released from the holes in the drum. Hot steam kills fungi and harmful microorganisms and eliminates odors.

Not all programs are suitable for a particular person, for example, washing with steam is not always relevant, and the presence of a hypoallergenic cycle should only be considered if there are allergy sufferers or small children in the house. Therefore, when choosing a washing machine, you should start not from the number of modes, but from which of them will actually be used in everyday life.

Breaking

All modern washing machines are equipped with a self-diagnosis option. If any malfunction occurs, the device notifies the owner about it. Many users are interested in: “What should I do if the indicator light is blinking and the washing process itself does not start?” In this case, the first step is to check whether the hatch door is closed. To do this, you need to open it and press it against the body again - a characteristic click should sound. Also, sometimes owners accidentally press the Pause key. If the device has a screen, then when it is activated, a special icon appears. Having ruled out these two options, you will need to completely disconnect the washing machine (even from the power supply). Leave it in this position for approximately 20 minutes. Then start the cycle again.

Optimal modes to save resources

These programs are designed to reduce costs - electricity, water, time of the owner and are characterized by a reduced process of washing the product. Different manufacturers of automatic washing machines may have all sorts of names:

  1. Eco . When this program is turned on, the product is washed in cool water. This mode allows you to save electricity.
  2. Time saving (quick wash) . The process time is reduced by an average of 50%.
  3. Express . The fastest wash mode - the entire cycle can take less than 30 minutes. Excellent for saving energy and water, but not suitable for heavily soiled products.

How does the function work?

The “Pre-wash” program is compatible with almost all modes: “Hand wash”, “Cotton”, “Synthetics”, “Delicates”, “Intensive”, “Wool”, “Jeans” and others. This is usually an additional option that can be turned on or off. And only in some modes is it combined with the main program, for example, “Cotton” at 90 degrees.

How does pre-wash work?

  1. The washing machine takes in water and heats it to 30 degrees. At this temperature, stains from fruit, coffee, and blood are easily removed.
  2. Then the powder is taken from the compartment, which is intended for the preliminary cycle. The detergent remains intact in the main tray.
  3. The drum rotates slowly to clean the laundry.
  4. The duration of the mode ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the model of the washing machine.
  5. Then the water is drained and the main wash begins.

While the program is running, a powder tray is used, indicated by a unit (Roman or Arabic) or the English letter A.

Control panel icons

To find out what a particular icon on the control panel means, you can look at the instructions. Manufacturers often write the name of the mode - then no questions arise.

Most models have the same icon indicating pre-washing - W-shaped. This is the icon used in models from Samsung, LG, and Bosch.

What icons indicate

The designation of modes has not undergone a standardization procedure, so they may differ slightly from different manufacturers of washing machines and will be a picture that will depict a program that is intuitive for the user.

The most commonly used icons are:

  • Wash . For many brands, this mode is depicted as a pelvis. At the same time, by adding certain elements - for example, a hand, the designation of the features of the process is achieved - in this case, hand washing.
  • Rinse . It is depicted by different manufacturers as a bowl with drops or a watering can. By adding certain icons - for example, a clock during a quick rinse - the nuances of the process are depicted.
  • Spin . The most common sign is in the form of a twisted spiral. In some programs it may appear crossed out. This means that the selected mode does not involve spinning.

Liquid detergents (available on some models) (Samsung Wf700-600-602)

To use liquid detergent, insert the liquid detergent dispenser into the main compartment of the detergent drawer and pour liquid detergent into the liquid detergent dispenser.

• Do not fill above the MAX line. • When using powder detergent, remove the liquid detergent dispenser from the detergent drawer. Powder detergents will not be dispensed when there is a liquid detergent dispenser. • After washing, there may be some liquid left in the detergent drawer.

Does she always help?

If things are covered with stains that are difficult to remove, then even “soaking” in SMA will not help remove them. Often the users themselves are to blame for this. How to avoid problems:

  • Do not stack laundry with different levels of soiling together. Dirtier products will stain the “neighbors.” Colored laundry may fade due to close contact and high humidity.
  • Do your laundry weekly—don't hoard dirty laundry.
  • Treat items with stains. Remove dirt. If this is not done, then the stains after contact with heated water will become even stronger in the fabric fibers.

Nuances by brand

To decipher the unsigned symbols on the washing machine panel, you can refer to the user manual. The management of each brand has its own characteristics.

Bosch

In the Bosch SMA, to enable the option there is a button with the corresponding inscription; in some models it is indicated by a container icon with one vertical stripe inside. By the way, a similar symbol, but with two stripes, means the main wash cycle.

You can tell that the function is activated when the indicator lights up. If the user tries to supplement the preliminary stage with a mode incompatible with it in time, the device will “beep” and the light will not light up.

LG

Prewash in machines, as in Bosch equipment, is activated by pressing a button with an inscription or a container icon with a vertical stripe.

A number of LG models have special modes in which the option is turned on automatically without user intervention. An example is the Curtains program.

Zanussi

In the Zanussi SMA, the option is most often indicated by a container symbol with one vertical stripe. The pre-cycle time depends on the selected program and can last from 40 to 115 minutes.

Additional functions are selected by the user after setting the required washing mode.

Indesit

In Indesit brand machines, the function can be indicated by a container icon with one stripe or an image of a T-shirt with spots. In newer models, as a rule, there is a corresponding inscription on the panel.

When you turn on some modes, for example “Cotton: soak wash”, the machine automatically adds a preliminary wash cycle to the main wash cycle. Indesit assigns specific numbers to the operating programs of the device. To understand them, find the instructions.

Adviсe

Even a washing machine may not be able to remove stains if you do not follow simple rules.

  1. Carefully read the instructions for your washing machine to understand the nuances of how the “Pre-wash” or “Pre-soak” modes work on your model. This will help avoid damage to laundry or damage to the device.
  2. Before you start washing, separate your clothes by color, type of fabric and degree of soiling to prevent faded colors from staining white items.
  3. Do laundry once a week, because the longer the stain remains on the clothes, the more it eats into the fibers of the fabric.
  4. Do not store laundry in a compressed state. Linens placed closely in a basket can stain each other, and heavily soiled items can stain the rest.
  5. Difficult stains should be washed by hand with laundry soap or a special stain remover before washing.
  6. Pre-wash involves the use of dry powder, since liquid detergents will flow into the drum at the beginning of the additional period, and in the main wash the items will be washed simply in water.
  7. Observe the normal load of laundry. When the drum is clogged, things become more difficult to wash.
  8. Do not use this function for washing delicates and wool; it is better to save the fabric and do it manually.

We hope that after reading this article, pre-washing in the washing machine will become your indispensable assistant in the fight against stained clothes and stubborn stains.
