SMA seems to have figured out how to do laundry; everything is quite simple, considering that the equipment does almost everything for you. With hand knitting, everything is not much more complicated, and most importantly, it is most preferable for woolen knitted products. Because there is less chance that the item may shrink or, conversely, stretch.

Of course, many people believe that the most reliable option is to use dry cleaning services, but this is not entirely true. Because no one will provide you with a 100% guarantee of a successful outcome. And here you can independently control the entire process and, on top of that, you will save a lot of money.

So, the action algorithm is as follows: fill a small container with warm water, dilute laundry detergent in it and place a knitted sweater there. Then leave it to lie there for about 10 minutes, then rub your hands over the areas of greatest contamination - sleeves, elbows, collars; if necessary, they can be additionally treated with soap.

The main thing is not to rub or pull too hard, as the item may become deformed; squeezing is also not recommended; gather everything into a ball and squeeze. You need to rinse in a liquid at the same temperature as you washed; you can use a softener to soften it. And if you don’t have it, prepare a vinegar solution for 5 liters of liquid; you need to take 2 tablespoons of vinegar.

If you don't like the smell, you can use regular hair conditioner. Then hang it carefully, so excess moisture drips off, then lay it on a towel and roll it into a roll, this will allow the remaining excess moisture to be absorbed into the terry. It is best to dry by laying the item on a white sheet, this will prevent it from being painted in other colors. To prevent it from acquiring a musty smell, turn it over periodically.

"Grandma's" remedies

If you decide to go for a run through the countryside and won’t get home soon, you can wash your sportswear using the means at hand.

Regular baking soda. To use it to clean clothes, you need to prepare a solution: 1 teaspoon per glass of warm water. Apply it to the item and leave for 20-30 minutes. Then stretch.
Table vinegar. As practice shows, it perfectly neutralizes the smell of sweat. You can replace it with lemon juice or citric acid. The soaking solution is prepared in the following proportions: 1 teaspoon per half glass of water. Things should be allowed to lie in such water for 15-30 minutes. And after that, stretch.
If the smell has already ingrained itself into your clothes, a solution of vinegar and soda will help get rid of it. Add half a glass of vinegar and a tablespoon of soda to a bowl of water for soaking. And also pre-soak briefly. Then wash. This solution effectively destroys bacteria that have settled in the tissue.
Laundry soap does an excellent job with both sweat and stains from it. You can use it in the following way: wet, for example, a T-shirt, rub it with laundry soap and leave to lie for half an hour. Then soak for the same amount of time and wash.

“Grandma’s” products are best used on summer equipment. But clothes made from membrane fabrics should still be washed with specialized products.

Automatic wash

Depending on the composition, things require different care; as a rule, the manufacturer indicates on the label all the recommendations regarding temperature conditions, cleaning methods and the correct selection of products. Today, automatic machines make it possible to care for most fabrics efficiently and without harm, the main thing is to follow the recommendations.

If there is a need to remove a stain, it is necessary to pre-treat it. The most accessible method for everyone involves using laundry soap; to do this, wet the problem area, rub it with soap and rub lightly.
Do not use a brush as it will leave snags or cause pellets. Leave for 20-30 minutes, and then load into the SMA. A greasy mark can be easily removed if you have just placed it, treat the area with table salt.
And if it was installed a couple of days ago, dishwashing detergent can easily handle it. Apply a small amount, rub lightly and rinse under running warm water.
If you wash different materials in one load, and if some of them contain decoration in the form of stones, buttons or zippers, then place the jacket in a special bag, it will prevent snags or creases on the fabric. If you don’t have a special bag, you can easily replace it with a regular cotton pillowcase.
The next point is the temperature regime, the most optimal and gentle is the range of 30-40 degrees. Since in this case there is no deformation of the fabric, such as shrinkage or, conversely, stretching and color saturation lasts longer.
The choice of program also plays a big role; it is better to use delicate or wool mode.
Also, do not neglect the rule about color proximity, white with white, dark with dark.

Explanation of the label

Before you start using clothing with built-in headphones, you should carefully read the symbols on the label, decipher them and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations:

A crossed out water container means washing is prohibited. If there is a line at the bottom under this container, you can wash the product on a delicate cycle.
If a palm is shown next to the filled container, then only hand washing is allowed. The number next to the container indicates the degree of water that is most optimal for washing.
A square with three vertical lines indicates drying without spinning, and if there is a circle and a dot inside the square, dry only at low temperatures. In the future, the increase in temperature during drying will depend on the number of points: 2 points - medium, 3 - high.

What to do if you are stretched?

Mistakes made when washing a sweater can cause deformation of the product. There are several ways to restore the original appearance and shape of a stretched item.

This method involves using a washing machine:

The stretched jacket is placed in a special washing bag and loaded into the drum.
Liquid detergent for wool is poured into the special compartment of the washing machine, the water temperature is set to 30°C, and the “wool” washing mode is set. The drying and spinning option is disabled.

Locally stretched places

In this case, the product is not completely wetted, but only those places that have stretched.

The partially wetted product is laid out on a horizontal surface. You can speed up the drying process by using cold air from a hair dryer.

Conditions for washing products with technical equipment

According to the manufacturers, headphones and wires sewn into hoodies will not be damaged when cleaning sweatshirts and vests from dirt manually or using a machine wash. Look at the label with information about the possibility of treating clothes with a hot solution. There may be restrictions on water temperature.
Do not twist the jacket after hand rinsing, do not spin it in the drum when washing by machine. The integrity of the wires will be destroyed from excessive force.

Iron clothes after drying only on a medium setting, avoid ironing seams that contain a mini-cable.
Use the headphones when the moisture has completely left them. Until this moment, do not use the connector for connecting a player or tablet.

The purchase will be replaced with a new one if the technical equipment fails after washing, if the warranty period for the clothes has not expired. A mandatory requirement is compliance with the rules for wearing windbreakers, sweatshirts, and operating their acoustic devices.

Washing a sweater in a machine

Woolen

Wool items shrink easily, and if proper cleaning procedures are not followed, your clothing may shrink several sizes:

washing in a machine is allowed if the wool content of the yarn is no more than 50 percent;
no pre-soaking required;
do not mix things of different colors;
Before putting it in the drum, turn the pullover inside out;
to prevent pellets from appearing, you can use special rubber balls or regular tennis balls;
use a washing bag; if you don’t have one, you can use a pillowcase; don’t forget to sew up the free edge so that the pullover doesn’t fall out during the washing process;
the temperature should not exceed 30 degrees;
washing mode - wool;
spinning and drying are turned off, since during spinning the yarn gets tangled and shrinks;
Choose a detergent special for wool, which contains lanolin. There are a large number of them on sale - “Laska”, “Cashmere”, “Pervol”, choose in accordance with your financial capabilities and the degree of trust in the manufacturer. In extreme cases, you can wash it with hair shampoo, but it will be more difficult to rinse;
use rinses, after their use the product becomes softer and fluffy, and less electrified when worn.

Acrylic

When cleaning acrylic yarn items, follow the manufacturer's directions on the label. As a rule, acrylic does not require such scrupulous treatment as wool. You can use any washing powder or gel according to the color of the pullover.

The temperature is set, as a rule, to 40 degrees; if the temperature is set higher, the product may stretch. Set the spin speed to no more than 500. To soften, you can use conditioner.

From angora

Angora yarn, like cashmere yarn, is made from the down of special breeds of goats. Angora products are very cozy, warm and fluffy. But caring for them requires a very careful attitude. It is not recommended to wash 100 percent angora in a machine; the item may become very matted.

If the composition contains at least 50 percent synthetics, machine washing is possible subject to the following recommendations:

turn the product inside out and place it in a special laundry bag;
the temperature should not be higher than 30 degrees;
turn off spinning and drying;
use special detergents for washing angora;
to restore fluffiness, after washing you can soak the jumper in lukewarm water, to which 2 tbsp is added. spoons of ammonia and 1 tbsp. spoon of turpentine. It is enough to keep the pullover in the solution for half an hour.

Sheep

If your sheepskin sweater is knitted from synthetic-free yarn, it is better to wash it by hand. Since washing in a washing machine can damage it irrevocably - it will become matted and it will be impossible to fix it.

Blended yarn with a synthetic composition of at least 50 percent can be washed in a machine, following the recommendations:

wool or hand wash mode;
temperature no more than 30 degrees;
special detergent containing lanolin;
without using spin and dry options;
You can use conditioner to make it softer.

Program selection

Modern household appliances have useful programs “washing outerwear” or “washing a down jacket.” The set mode will automatically determine the desired temperature range. But not all housewives are so lucky. Although ordinary machines are also capable of coping with the task without harming the quality of the item. Suitable programs:

“delicate wash” - all washing machines have this mode;
“hand wash” - acceptable for items with a “hand wash only” sign on the label;
“synthetic” - for jackets made of artificial fibers;
“Down blanket” - the program is suitable for washing down jackets, the drum rotates in different directions, and the item is constantly shaken.

Advice! When washing a down jacket in the washing machine, you can put a couple of tennis balls in the drum: they will fluff up the down.

The names of washing programs may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. It is important that the process involves careful handling of the item at low temperatures. The manual mode does not spin things at all, but only moves them back and forth. Products made from synthetics are more durable and hold color better, so the special program for them is a little more intense. In any case, unless the manufacturer of the item prohibits machine spinning, the number of revolutions per minute should not exceed 600.

Attention! Do not put other items in the drum with a jacket or down jacket.
