How to wash a duvet: in the washing machine and by hand

In winter, an important element in building immunity for a child is walking in the fresh, frosty air. It is important to ensure that the baby does not freeze and feels as comfortable as possible. An important role in this is played by the cleanliness of clothes and bedspreads with which children are wrapped.

You can’t put a jumpsuit on a baby, and you can’t wrap it up with just a blanket; it was for them that envelopes were developed and put into mass production long ago, which provide warmth using natural or artificial insulation. Most parents prefer natural ones, with sheepskin being the leader. Over time, such a thing requires cleansing, but not everyone knows how to do this correctly.

Drying

The product is not only washed in an unusual way, but also dried. Many mothers ask the question whether it is possible to dry a baby fur envelope outdoors. We answer: it is possible and necessary, you just need to know and follow some rules characteristic of such things:

  1. Do not dry in direct sunlight, near heaters or radiators.
  2. If the top is lined with waterproof fabric, it should be turned inside out to dry.
  3. The best place is considered to be partial shade with good ventilation.

But it is better when a wool product is freed from moisture naturally. The process is long, but the most correct. You can speed it up; many mothers dry envelopes with fur like this:

  • Turn fur side out.
  • Place a dry terry towel.
  • Roll up a tight roller.
  • If the towel gets wet immediately, replace it with a dry one and roll it again.
  • The roller is pressed well, you can just sit on it.
  • Wet towels are changed until the moisture completely disappears.

It is correct to dry in a horizontal position on a moisture-absorbing cloth or towel for as long as necessary.

Is it possible?

You can wash the duvet by hand or in a machine. Automatic processing takes less time and does not require much effort, but before you decide to machine wash, you need to take into account the following points:

  1. Dimensions. If it is large (euro or 2-bedroom), it is better to go to dry cleaning.

  2. Information on the label . If the manufacturer does not recommend machine washing the product, this prohibition should not be violated.
  3. Nature of pollution . If they are small, you can limit yourself to local cleaning.
  4. Product condition . Holes, loose seams and other defects must be eliminated. If you do not do this in advance, then during washing they will become even larger and the fluff will fall out through them.

If all points are taken into account and there are no contraindications for machine washing, you can safely put the blanket in the drum.

Experts recommend purchasing a duvet whose cover is made of thick cotton fabric. It holds the filler well and is easy to clean.

Dry cleaning method

Hand wash sheepskin

This method is used when sheepskin items cannot be washed in a washing machine or bath due to their size. In this case, proceed as follows:

  • Carpets, capes or sheepskin covers should be vacuumed more often;
  • Sheepskin items are excellent for cleaning in the snow. They are laid out with the fur facing up, snow is thrown on top, which, having absorbed all the dirt, is then swept away. You can turn the sheepskin over and repeat the entire procedure. This cleaning method is good because low temperatures help get rid of dust mites;
  • stains are removed with a solution prepared from equal parts of water and ammonia. It is applied to the contaminated surface with a sponge and then removed;
  • yellowness is removed from sheep fur with hydrogen peroxide, taken in the amount of three spoons per liter of water. But processing is allowed only for the surface of the pile, the base should not be affected;
  • In order for the sheepskin base to retain its elasticity, it is recommended to treat it with a mixture consisting of egg yolk and petroleum jelly;
  • The purity of the sheepskin is restored with the help of raw potatoes. The vegetable is crushed in a blender and applied to the dirty stain. After this, cleaning is carried out with a brush, the residues are removed with a napkin.

Rules for cleaning car covers made of natural sheepskin

In winter, some drivers put covers made of sheep fur over their car seats. They retain heat perfectly and create additional comfort for passengers during long trips. But at the end of winter, the covers need to be cleaned. If they are not very dirty, the cleaning procedure can be performed with starch.

The wet method is also allowed. With a sponge, a product is applied to the surface of the wool, with the help of which wool items are washed and foamed. At the end of the procedure, the cover is dried and vacuumed. The foam can be washed off with water, in which case the vacuum cleaner is not used after drying.

Using this cleaning method, covers can be restored to their original appearance.

How to wash baby onesies with sheepskin

It, like a sheepskin envelope, is often used in winter as outerwear for babies. But not every woman knows the rules for washing baby overalls. And washing in this case has certain features, because the product consists of different types of materials. For example, the lining of the jacket will be made of sheepskin, and the top will be made of a different type of material.

You can wash a sheepskin envelope or overalls by hand or in a washing machine. All zippers and rivets are completely unfastened, pockets are freed. The washing procedure is already known, but drying has some differences. The sheepskin is laid horizontally on the surface, fur side out; the locks are not fastened until drying is complete, so that the metal does not begin to rust.

After washing, dry sheepskin will have to be softened by combing the fur and kneading it with your hands.

Types of envelopes

Blanket envelopes for babies are a relatively recent invention that has made it easier to get your baby ready for a walk. Previously, they wrapped the child in a regular blanket, fixing the free edge. During a walk in cold weather, the baby had practically no opportunity to move.

The envelopes are made spacious enough, and the baby, lying in the stroller, can move his arms and legs. The function of the product is to protect the baby from wind and cold, to simplify getting ready for a walk, which is facilitated by the cut and the presence of fasteners.

When choosing an envelope for discharge, the time of year when the child is born is taken into account. Products are warm and light - winter, demi-season, summer. Accordingly, the main differences relate to the amount and characteristics of the filler. The same factor influences how best to wash the item.

To make the inner, insulating layer, use:

  • synthetic filler (sintepon, holofiber, etc.);
  • wool;
  • cotton wool;
  • membrane material.

In addition, there are blanket envelopes without filling - they are knitted from wool or acrylic threads. In order not to spoil the item, you need to know how to wash it correctly. The choice of washing method depends on the materials from which the envelope is made.

Basic rules of care

Any item made of sheepskin will look attractive only if it is properly cared for:

  • Sheepskin skins laid on the floor, chairs or beds should be shaken out well. This is done to prevent deep penetration of dust;
  • One sheep's fur is cleaned every seven days with a vacuum cleaner. This procedure removes dust and straightens lint;
  • When cleaning a sheepskin rug, it is recommended to pay attention to the base of the skin;
  • Washing such a product in a washing machine should be done monthly. Please note that the material is of natural origin, and if it is not washed, after a while it begins to emit characteristic odors.

In addition to the above measures, sheepskin owners will have to use techniques that help restore the elasticity and softness of the product.

Even at the time of purchasing sheepskin, you should realize that there will be constant costs for washing and manual cleaning of sheepskin, including for eliminating odors.

Handwash

How to wash a product for a child by hand? There is nothing complicated about this, just follow the basic recommendations and use the right detergents. To carry out the process we need:

  • A bowl of cool water.
  • Liquid detergent.
  • Stain remover.
  • A little time.

Important! It is strictly forbidden to soak a fur envelope.

The sheepskin envelope is first prepared for wet cleaning; for this, all buttons, zippers, and buttons are unfastened. The hard bottom-back is pulled out and the product itself is checked for stains. If there are any, carefully treat them with a special agent.

How to wash a baby envelope? This process consists of the following steps:

  • Enough cool water is filled into the basin.
  • Dissolve the required amount of detergent in it.
  • Place a fur envelope there so that it is completely submerged in water.
  • Carry out the main process by lightly rubbing problem areas.
  • It is necessary to rinse thoroughly in several waters.

It is not recommended to use rinses and softeners; the child may react to them with allergic reactions.

If the filler has gone astray

To keep the fluff from sticking, the blanket must be fluffed periodically while drying. Hanging the product on a rope promotes the formation of lumps. If the filler does get lost, you can deal with this problem using a rolling pin or a carpet cracker.

Proceed as follows:

  • lay out the product on a flat surface, for example, on a sofa;
  • pat the blanket over the entire surface;
  • shake the bedding manually in all directions;
  • Additionally, you can blow the product with a hairdryer, turning on cold air.

You need to make sure that the fluff does not form clumps even at the drying stage.
