All washing machines manufactured under the Ariston, Hotpoint-Ariston and Hotpoint brands have a self-diagnosis system. If a malfunction occurs, the installation stops operation and gives a certain signal, which can be used to determine the cause of the problem.
Modern models of Ariston washing machines are equipped with a special display on which information codes appear in the event of a malfunction
In modern models of Ariston washing machines, for example Avsd 107, the fault signal is displayed on the display in the form of an alphanumeric code. On installations without a digital display, you need to decipher the error code by blinking the indicators.
The self-diagnosis system helps washing machine owners determine the reason for the stoppage. Thanks to this, you can save your family budget without calling a technician to fix minor problems. In our article we will list the main error codes for Ariston washing machines, tell you what they mean and how you can fix some of them yourself.
First of all, we list the codes and the corresponding malfunctions, and then present a scheme for recognizing codes from indicator signals.
List of information codes and their decoding
Since washing machines of the Ariston and Indesit brands are produced by the same manufacturer, their information error codes are also the same. Let us consider in detail each of the nineteen alphanumeric combinations.
Error code F01
Most often, the F01 error code that appears on the screen indicates a short circuit in the engine management system. As a result, the connection between the motor and the control module is disrupted. Another reason for the lack of communication may be low voltage in the network.
To fix a problem without calling a technician, you need to have special skills: you will need to inspect the contacts of the electric motor, the harness connecting the motor to the control board. It is better to entrust checking the operation of connections and troubleshooting to professionals. You can independently try to disconnect the installation from the network and turn it on again after 10-15 minutes. If the error appeared as a result of a single malfunction of the control module, it will disappear.
Error code F02
Error F02 is also associated with problems with the electric motor. The cause of the malfunction may be a breakdown of the tachogenerator (speed sensor) or engine blocking, as well as a disruption in the supply of signals to the engine from the control board.
The tachometer controls the speed of the electric motor.
The engine may become blocked due to foreign objects getting into it or jamming of the bearings. Inspection of the engine, tachometer, controller and check of their wiring should be carried out by professionals.
Error code F03
Information code F03 occurs when the machine cannot heat the water to the required temperature. The cause of the malfunction may be a “sticking” relay of the heating element (tubular electric heater) or a breakdown of the temperature sensor. You can restore the machine's functionality by eliminating wiring faults or replacing broken parts.
Error codes F04 and F10
If the pressure switch - the sensor that controls the water level in the washing machine - does not work correctly, code F04 or F10 appears on the display. The cause of the malfunction may be either a breakdown of the sensor itself or a breakdown in communication between the sensor and the control board.
If error F04 appears, you can independently check the tube and contacts of the pressure switch
Most often, the pressure switch fails due to a violation of the integrity of the contacts or a clogged tube. You can fix such problems yourself. Replacement of the sensor or repair of the control board must be performed by a specialist.
Error code F05
Error F05 most often indicates that the pump cannot pump water out of the washing machine tank. This may be due to the following reasons: pump breakdown, clogged drain hose or filter, clogged sewer. If there is no water in the tank and the machine displays error F05, the water level sensor may be broken or the connection between it and the control module may be broken.
Poor water drainage may be caused by a clogged drain filter.
When the machine stops working with water in the tank, you need to drain the water before correcting the error. Emergency draining is performed using a regular drain hose or emergency connection, which is usually located behind a small door at the bottom of the front panel.
When error F05 appears, first check to see if there are any blockages in the drain hose or filter. Then inspect the pump, water level sensor and their contacts. It is better to entrust the replacement of faulty parts to a professional.
Error code F06
If information code F06 appears on the washing machine screen, this means that the buttons on the control panel are faulty. It is better to entrust the troubleshooting to a technician who will check the contacts and operation of the control module. You can independently verify that household appliances are connected to the network and that the socket and power cord are working properly.
Error codes F07 and F08
The washing machine displays error code F07 when it determines that the heating element is not covered with water when starting the wash. There may be several reasons for such a malfunction: failure of the heating element itself, the water level sensor or the control module. Difficulties with getting water can be caused by blockages in the hose or filter, as well as a lack of water in the water supply. Error code F08 is also associated with malfunctions of the heating element and water level sensor.
The heating element of a washing machine often fails due to the formation of limescale on its tubes
When error F07 or F08 appears on the screen, first check the presence of water in the house, then, if necessary, clean the fill hose and filter. If you were unable to fix the malfunction on your own, it is better to call a specialist, since it may be necessary to replace the heating element or pressure switch.
Error code F09
If information code F09 appears on the washing machine display, it means there has been a failure in the volatile memory. You can try to “fix” this problem by disconnecting the unit from the network and connecting it again after 10-15 minutes. If rebooting does not help, you need to call a technician.
Error code F11
When the machine cannot spin and drain water, code F11 appears on the display. Unlike error F05, in this case the cause of the malfunction lies only in the breakdown of the drain pump. If a part needs to be replaced, it is better to contact a specialist.
Error code F12
The appearance of code F12 on the screen indicates a lack of communication between the display module and the electronic controller. In such cases, the help of a specialist is required.
Error codes F13, F14 and F15
Codes F13, F14 and F15 are valid for Ariston washing machines with a clothes drying function. Malfunctions may include a breakdown of the temperature sensor or drying heating element, or a breakdown in communication between the devices and the control module.
Error code F16
The occurrence of code F16 is possible only in washing machines with vertical loading of laundry. The error lies in the blocking of the drum, for example, if the hatch in it was closed incorrectly. The drum can also become jammed due to foreign objects. In order not to cause even more damage to the equipment, it is better to entrust the troubleshooting to a specialist.
In Ariston top-loading machines, error code F16 indicates that the drum is blocked
Error code F17
If the washing machine hatch is not completely closed, information code F17 appears on the display. It happens that the door remains open due to negligence, but the most common causes of this error are foreign objects getting into the lock and deformation of the rubber cuff.
Open the door, carefully inspect the cuff and lock mechanism, remove foreign objects. If after checking the door still does not close, you should call a technician.
The rubber cuff located in the hatch of the washing machine may become deformed over time.
Error code F18
Error code F18 means the processor has failed. If a part burns out, it is replaced with a new one. Repairs must be carried out by specialists.
Error code H20
Information code H20 is displayed on the display when no water enters the tank. The most likely causes: lack of water in the water supply network, clogged hose, filter or water supply valve. If an error appears on the display of a new washing machine during the first wash, it means it is not connected to the pipes or sewerage correctly.
Faults requiring complex repairs
- Damage to wiring. You need to find where the wiring is damaged, resolder or replace the cables with new ones. On your own, if you have a multimeter, you can test each cable and wire for integrity. If a break is detected, replace it with a new one.
- The control module firmware (memory) has failed - the technician must reprogram the microcircuit.
- The display unit or one of the elements is broken. Each element is called, the faulty one is identified and replaced with a new one. Local repairs are not always possible, in which case the board is completely replaced.
- The control board has burned out. Repair is sometimes possible, but often replacement with a new one is required.
Code recognition scheme based on indicator signals
There are many models of Ariston washing machines without a display, for example, Avsl 80, Aqualtis, Margherita 2000 or top-loading models Avtl 104, Avtl 83. They signal problems by blinking indicators on the dashboard.
It is not difficult to decipher light signals; to do this you need:
- find in the photographs below an image of the operating panel of your washing machine;
- determine which number each flashing indicator corresponds to;
- add up all the numbers.
The number resulting from the addition will correspond to the error information code. For example, if the indicators corresponding to numbers 1 and 4 are blinking on the panel, then their sum of 5 will mean error F05.
The photos below show the numerical values of the indicators of various models of Ariston washing machines.

Controller functions
To find out how to fix the breakdown and remove the error, you need to understand why an electronic controller is needed.
- Responsible for selecting washing programs.
- Displays the operating mode of the washing machine on the panel and display.
- Controls the drain and water intake valves.
- It controls the operation of the washing machine motor, which means it controls the rotation speed of the drum.
- Controls the pump, distribution valve, pressure switch, UBL device.
- Responsible for turning on and off the Ariston SM.
If you need to perform an autotest of the machine, the controller will also help with this.
Self check
To check the Hall sensor, you need to get to it:
- Remove the back panel of the machine.
- Below you will see the engine. The tachometer is located on the shaft at the rear. To get it, you will have to remove the engine.
- Remove the belt from the shaft.
- Unscrew the mounting screws.
- Disconnect the wires.
This video will help you remove the motor from the Ariston washing machine yourself:
Check with a multimeter. The resistance should be no more than 60 ohms.
There is another way:
- Set the tester to measure voltage. Connect the multimeter and rotate the motor by hand. If the voltage rises (0.2 V), then everything is fine.
- Additionally, check the bolt that secures the tachogenerator. If it is loose, tighten it.
Solution options
How to troubleshoot if the Hall effect sensor fails the test? This part rarely breaks; the main reason for failure is overload of the Ariston SM. There is only one option - replacing the tachogenerator. You need to disconnect it from the engine:
- Remove the cover with a latch; it can be secured with bolts.
- Now unscrew the sensor mounting bolts.
- Install the new part in the reverse order.
If done correctly, this will help solve the problem. The washing machine will work in normal mode, and error F02 will no longer appear.
