Let's take a closer look at the purpose of these elements in the dishwasher and the principles of their replacement.

How the mechanisms of dishwashers work

The operating principle of the technical device is quite simple:

The built-in microprocessor reacts to the tightness of the closed door and activates the drain pump;
When the water level in the pump is sufficient to wash a certain amount of dishes, which is confirmed by a special sensor, the circulation pump comes into operation. It is this part that creates the necessary pressure inside the housing, causing the impeller to rotate;
At the same time, the dispenser with soap solution opens, the heating element heats the water and the dishes are cleaned of dirt and food debris;
The dirty water is drained and a new portion is poured in for rinsing. After this procedure, the water is drained, the contents are dried, and the sensor signals the end of the machine’s operation.

Operating principle of PMM

The circulation pump is used to pump water into the systems. It constantly works, pumping and delivering water to the rocker arms, from where it flies out under high pressure. The detergent dispenser immediately opens and food residues are washed into the tray, from where they fall into the filter. The waste water is purified again and supplied to the nozzles. Therefore, the pump is also called a recirculation pump.

A common cause of breakdown of the recirculation unit is a leak. Water gets on the bushings, washes away the lubricant, which leads to their wear.

The pump drains waste water, removing it outside the bunker. After the end of the cycle, the control board gives it a signal to pump out. The impeller is considered the most vulnerable point. Hair and threads often wrap around it, blocking the operation of the mechanism, so it is important to carry out periodic cleaning.

When does the pump need repair?

The dishwasher works, but the water does not circulate after washing, the dishes are not washed. At the same time, you can hear the engine humming. First of all check:

Inlet filters - if clogged, they are washed under pressure from the tap;
Injectors - remove the rocker arms from their seats and check their holes; if they are clogged, take a toothpick and clean out the passages.

If the water in the machine does not heat up and the flow heating element is in order, then the engine must be replaced.

Is the drain pump in the Candy or Zanussi PMM constantly running and does not turn off? There may be several reasons:

Problems with the electronic board or wiring. The pump triac may be malfunctioning, or the wires may be damaged and do not transmit a shutdown signal.
The pressure switch is malfunctioning. The level sensor monitors the amount of water in the tank, after which it sends a signal to the board to stop supplying. If the sensor transmits incorrect readings indicating that there is still water left in the hopper, the pump does not turn off.
The dishwasher is not installed level. For example, Electrolux models are very sensitive to tilts of more than two degrees.
Incorrect connection to the sewer leads to a siphon effect. The waste flows back into the machine and the pump has to pump it out.
The pump itself broke.

The PMM engine and its components cannot be repaired, so a complete replacement will be required. When choosing replacement parts, consider the following factors:

Finding out the reasons for equipment failure

How can I check what happened? It’s very simple, if after drawing water the machine does not function, then the following has happened:

The filter is clogged and needs to be replaced;
Residues of food got into the nozzle holes and clogged them. To fix this, you need to clean the injectors;
The circulation pump has failed. This breakdown does not happen often, and it can be identified by the characteristic silence after filling with water. A normally operating pump emits a quiet hum.

How to change the drain pump?

Let's start with the drainage tract. First you need to clean the system and inspect the impeller. Most of the problems are related to its blocking, so disassembling the entire case at once is “monkey work.”

Remove the dish trays from the hopper.
There is a drain filter at the bottom.

Unscrew it. Depending on the brand of equipment, there is a mesh behind the filter. Also remove and clean it.

Using pliers, you will tighten the fasteners that hold the machine pump. Use screwdrivers to loosen and then reinstall the fasteners. It is more convenient to use an awl to pry the body panel to remove it. Well, all measurements of resistance indicators are performed with a multimeter.

All that remains is to prepare the machine itself, for which the following activities are performed:

the dishwasher is disconnected from the electrical network;
the water supply is cut off;
the decorative panel located at the bottom, immediately under the car door is removed;
all hoses are disconnected from the body;

In some cases, it is enough to simply wash the circulation pump for the Indesit dishwasher with detergent under warm running water and remove any remaining food and dirt from the holes. If this does not help, then try replacing the seals (rings and washers) with new ones.

It is extremely rare that parts of an element wear out. In this case, you will have to purchase a new part to replace the old one. When the pump fails, the performance of the dishwasher decreases. Possible malfunctions:

pump breakdown leading to lack of water supply;

The drain pump is responsible for removing waste water from the machine after the washing process is completed. The control module gives a signal, the pump turns on and the contaminated water is removed from the machine. Experts call the drain pump impeller a weak point - if it is blocked by a foreign object, it rotates on the shaft, and the device must be replaced: such a defect cannot be repaired.

Diagnosis of failure

Having basic technical knowledge, it is quite possible to independently determine the cause of failure of the dishwasher unit. If there is no water circulation in the machine, the coarse and fine filters are not clogged, and the nozzles on the rocker arms are clean, then this is a sure sign that it is time to replace the circulation motor - there can be no other options.

When the water in a Bosch dishwasher does not heat up, the circulation pump must also be replaced, because it uses instantaneous elements to heat the water - they are not dismantled.
