You can carry out self-diagnosis of washing machine problems in two ways : using a mobile phone without access to the Internet or through the LG Appliance Smart Diagnosis application.

When it is not possible to download the Smart Diagnostics application, a Call Center specialist will help you remotely determine the cause of the washing machine malfunction.
Algorithm of actions:
We dial the number of the LG service center (contacts are indicated in the warranty card of the washing machine), inform about the need for diagnostics using the LG Smart Diagnosis system.- Following the instructions of the Call Center employee, we dial a certain set of numbers on the control panel.
- We bring the phone’s microphone to the “Smart diagnosis” icon located on the body of the washing machine. A characteristic sound signal will be transmitted to the support service, after which the operator will be able to voice the cause of the breakdown of the household appliance.
During diagnostics, the washing machine must be unlocked and connected to the electrical network. It is prohibited to press any buttons other than those indicated by the operator (otherwise the information received about the breakdown will be unreliable).
How to carry out diagnostics through an application on a smartphone?
For smartphone owners, the Smart Diagnostics algorithm is as follows:
- We connect the LG washing machine to the electrical network.
- Connects the smartphone to the WI-FI network during diagnostics.
- Download the LG Laundry&DW program, follow the instructions on the smartphone display, and start the diagnostic process.
- Having selected the required temperature and mode, we start the washing process.

The washing machine does not spin
There can be several reasons for this problem, ranging from banal inattention to quite serious breakdowns.
Before diagnosing the unit, you must:
Make sure that the “No spin” mode is not set or the speed has not decreased to 0. Make sure that the selected operating mode includes a spin, for example, in the “Hand Wash” or “Wool” program, only water drainage may be provided. Pay attention to the presence of imbalance. If you put too much laundry in the drum (for example, 6 kg instead of 5 kg maximum load), it may be poorly distributed and clump together.
In an attempt to straighten things out, the machine may freeze during the spin phase. Here you should unload the tank and restart the machine.
Sometimes the reasons for the lack of spin are much more serious:
- There is a problem with the drain unit. In this case, the unit “gets stuck” even at the washing stage, and the process simply does not reach the spin cycle.
- The pressure switch, the sensor that controls the water level, has failed. If it breaks down, it can give the control module an incorrect signal about a high water level, at which the device will not start spinning. If it fails, water may be collected continuously or, conversely, absent from the tank. Replacing the sensor is very simple - it is located immediately under the top panel of the tank.
- The tachometer is faulty. In this case, the drum can rotate, but the number of revolutions will not correspond to the specified ones.
- The electric motor or control module has failed. These breakdowns are rare, and it is quite difficult to eliminate them without resorting to the help of a specialist.
The listed parts (except for the motor and board) can be easily replaced by yourself.
The hatch door does not open
This situation can happen for a number of reasons:
- there is water left in the tank;
- the lock handle was broken;
- a water leak occurred and the safety lock was activated;
- child protection enabled;
- There was an unplanned power outage and a temporary blockage was triggered.
To troubleshoot the problem:
- Turn off the device from the mains, drain the water through the drainage pipe or filter. Wait half an hour.
- Try to open it, if it doesn’t work, restart the device to restart the program.
If the proposed methods do not help, you can open the lock manually using the emergency cable (it has a bright yellow or orange color, located behind the back panel) or press it by removing the top panel.
The car is noisy
The most likely cause of the noise is bearing wear. You can replace them yourself, however, this process is quite labor-intensive. Schematically it looks like this:
Remove the front, rear panels and the cover one by one to gain full access to the device, remove the engine by unscrewing the mounting bolts. Disassemble the tank of the LG WD washing machine, having previously disconnected: pipes (drain and water level sensor), fill valve, shock absorber mounts, counterweights, wires. They disassemble the drum, carefully knock out the bearing, and clean the seat. Apply lubricant, carefully hammer in the bearing, and assemble the structure.
Bearings that are not replaced in time may jam. A breakdown will damage the engine and lead to expensive repairs.
Water is leaking
The cause of the malfunction is a violation of the tightness of the device. Possible causes of leakage:
- the hatch cuff is torn;
- the drain or inlet hose is leaking;
- pipes leak;
- tank cracked.
The exact location of the leak can be determined by visual inspection. All that remains is to replace the worn part with a new one. The only exception is a cracked tank, which can only be repaired at a service center.

The application interface cannot be translated into Russian if the program was first installed in English. The system requires that the account be changed. In addition, it is not possible to add an automatic car and an air conditioner to the list of equipment. I described the problem to the developers, but have not yet received a clear answer.
Installed LG SmartThinQ on iPhone. In principle, the application works fine, but it lacks functionality. I can only select “my program” for washing via my smartphone. At the same time, nothing is said about the mode (how long it lasts, what types of fabric it is suitable for, what is the heating temperature of the water and the spin speed). I would like the developers to take this into account and show at least a basic description.
I was never able to use the application. I downloaded it, created an account without any problems, but it was simply impossible to set the geolocation. I tried restarting the program and digging into the Android settings - everything was pointless. The program is absolutely useless, I couldn’t even activate it completely, let alone control the car.
I struggled with the LG SmartThinQ for several hours, but was still unable to connect the new machine. A couple of times the process was almost completed, but at the end it still crashed and the household appliance was not recorded in the program. It’s just torture to make a hundred attempts to add a washing machine to your smartphone, and it’s precisely designed to work together with a mobile application. Developers, please fix the problem urgently.
In my case, the program simply stopped working and has not been functioning for 2 weeks. The application does not even allow you to check the connection with the automatic machine. This kind of negligent attitude of developers towards their users is simply annoying. Only negative feedback.
I use the application, but I’m not happy with the fact that I can’t add some washing modes to favorites. I ask the developers to pay attention to solving this problem.
Is it really that difficult to optimize an application's performance? Constant bugs leave a bad impression of LG. The program always freezes, waiting for a response from the machine, time runs out, and the equipment selection screen returns again. And so on in a circle. After the update, the LG SmartThinQ became simply impossible to use.
Developers, please make sure that the smartphone and the washing machine communicate directly, because they are connected to the same network. Otherwise, there is nothing to claim about the incredible convenience of the application. A constantly freezing program is just annoying.
We recently bought an LG automatic machine worth about 30 thousand rubles. We were pleasantly surprised when the store manager told us that the washing machine can be controlled remotely. The seller clarified the name of the application and we, full of the best forebodings, went to test the machine.
In fact, it turned out to be the worst mobile application I've ever seen. The interface is terrible, the washing modes are not localized in any way. So, by introducing Wi-Fi into the washing machine and connecting the equipment to a smartphone, I can only receive a notification about the end of the cycle.
