The history of Candy
It’s hard to believe, but an interethnic group grew out of an ordinary small workshop for repairing mechanical devices. Its owner, Eden Fumagalli, came up with a crazy idea to create a device that would be able to wash and rinse things on its own, thereby simplifying a person’s life and relieving him of a number of everyday responsibilities.
The man’s idea was successfully implemented by him and his three sons at the beginning of 1945, and in the “field” conditions the Fumagalli family assembled the first ever original Italian-made washing machine from improvised materials, which received the simple but sonorous name “Model 50” ( "Model 50")
A year later, in 1946, Eden dared to demonstrate his creation to the public, considering that the Milan Fair of Household Appliances was the most suitable event for this.
After the stunning success of the presented car at the last fair, Eden Fumagalli decides to create his own company, which he registers as “Candy” in honor of the Nat King Cole song of the same name, which was especially popular at that time. After establishing the brand, he patents his next innovative invention - a dishwasher.
With a legal patent in hand, Fumagalli decides to mass produce washing machines. Soon, an improved version of the Model 50 will hit the shelves of local stores and retail outlets (“Model 45”). It was equipped with a tank that could hold up to 3 kilograms of things, a water heating function, and a special pump, which ensured the washing process.
In the 60-70s, the company began to actively conquer foreign countries. So, in 1955, the brand’s first foreign office opened in France, and then, in 1958, Candy invaded Germany.
Since 1957, the first semi-automatic washing machines have been invented in Candy factories and factories, which have two new modes - spin and rinse. And just a few months later, the first automatic machine in history was produced, completely replacing hand washing.
