Remaking the bypass valve of the SIBERIA-6 washing machine

I am the owner of a Siberia washing machine, but not everything in it is designed well enough. Ours had to remove the electronic brake. There were also problems with the bypass valve between the tank and the centrifuge. From the factory the valve had a diameter of 13 cm. It let it through. I installed a modern one with a diameter three times smaller. And this one started to skip.

I naively thought that the entrance to the centrifuge could be closed by a fishing float with a guide needle, which was pushed towards the centrifuge. It pops up and shuts up. I was not happy for long. The float turned out to be made of wood and was so swollen that I could barely pull it out with pliers. I inserted a cork ball with a larger diameter than the inlet hole. Floats up and shuts down when the machine is full of water and not working.

However, during operation, vibration causes the float to bounce and allow water to flow into the centrifuge.

I started using the factory mold from the new valve. I press it from below with a weak external spring from a ballpoint pen with a diameter of about a centimeter. At the bottom of the tee, as a support for the spring, I placed a plastic sprayer from a paint can. I cut off the top and bottom of this plug, and to make room for the spring, I placed another rubber gasket cut from the membrane of an old large valve on top. I pressed the fungus with a fountain pen. Walking. Mounted it. Already washed it. It works, water has not flowed into the centrifuge for two hours.

And more. In the factory valve, tee, we also had to remove the guides for the skirt so that the support plug for the spring could be lowered lower, but so that it would not fall into the pipe.

Rice. 2

Its second end fit tightly into the rest of the skirt. I wanted to install a water tap entirely, but it would have been cumbersome, but now I don’t have a headache. The upgraded valve is working.

So what to do:

About the spring for the valve of the Siberia semi-automatic washing machine.

The valve of the Siberia washing machine is rubber. The specific gravity of rubber exceeds the specific gravity of water, and therefore it sinks without support and begins to pass water into the vertical hose above it, leading to the centrifuge.

To correct the situation, a weak spring is needed, inserted under its skirt, capable of holding the valve pressed during vibration that occurs during washing, and when the spin is turned on, compress and allow water to pass through. That's all. The spring must not be subject to corrosion.

In two photographs (Fig. 3, Fig. 4) below you can see the modified valve in two projections.

Rice. 3

Rice. 4

The spring rests on a cup, the bottom of which is not solid, but a cross. It can be seen that there are four sectors for the passage of water. I made a support cup for the spring from a plastic paint splatter cap from a spray can, cutting off the cap itself to the nozzle and shortening the valve skirts and support plugs so that there was more room for the spring. For the same purpose, I had to put another rubber gasket cut from the membrane of the old large valve on top.

To prevent water from flowing through the thread onto the floor, it is necessary to wrap the thread with FUM plumbing tape. The perfect fit was a spring from a ballpoint pen with an outer diameter such that it would fit snugly under the valve skirt. Of course, the Siberia washing machine is a fast horse: the vibration is such that the valve with the spring bounces off and the water passes a little into the centrifuge, but there must be a balance of forces between the pump and the spring. You cannot install a strong spring, as it will prevent the valve from draining water.

This modification of the valve did not bring any fundamental changes. The third general photograph (Fig. 5) shows no differences

Just note that the thick hose from the washing machine becomes thin 15 mm when approaching the tee-valve. The tee itself is factory, but all the protruding ribs in it must be cleaned so that the support goes as low as possible to allow the spring to move

Frequent malfunctions and their causes

Semi-automatic washing machines with or without spinning have a long list of breakdowns. All of them, in one way or another, are associated with either washing or spinning, that is, the machine either does not wash or does it poorly, or does not spin. We list the malfunctions of such washing machines:

  • The machine does not start to wash, the engine is silent. When the machine does not respond when turned on, the cause may be either a simple malfunction of the plug or socket, or a breakdown of the engine or electrics.
  • The machine hums, but the activator or drum does not rotate. The reason for this malfunction is the absence of a drive, that is, the drive belt has fallen off.
  • If water is leaking from under the washing machine, then the cause must be sought in a broken pump, pipe or machine body.
  • If the machine does not pump out water or does it poorly, the reason lies in a clogged hose or pump.
  • Water leakage during spinning indicates a breakdown of the drain pump, centrifuge tank, loose connections of the drain system components, damage to the drain valve or rubber seals.
  • The centrifuge does not spin and the engine does not work, which means there is a breakdown in the engine or electrics. If the motor hums but does not rotate, then the centrifuge tank may have been overloaded with water or laundry.

Repairing automatic washing machines will require not only certain skills, but also the availability of free time and tools, such as open-end wrenches, pliers and a multimeter, as well as spare parts to replace faulty elements.

There can be problems with spare parts, so repairing semi-automatic washing machines is often not practical.

Problems with drainage and water leakage

To fix problems with semi-automatic washing machines related to water leaks and drainage with your own hands, you can use the following instructions.

  1. We turn off the semi-automatic machine from the network and check for blockages. If necessary, clean the filter and drain hose. Along the way, check to see if the drain hose is kinked or if there are any holes in it.
  2. Next, using a screwdriver, open the body of the machine and find the drain pump.
    For your information! Depending on the model of the machine, there may be two of them, one for the centrifuge drain, the other for the washing tank. If there is only one pump, then the washing tank is drained by gravity.
  3. We disconnect the pump and open it to clean the impeller from debris. We also check its functionality with a multimeter or ohmmeter. If the pump winding is burned out, it will have to be replaced with a new one.
  4. In cases of water leaks, you should also check parts such as gaskets, diaphragm and membrane. They can easily be replaced with similar ones.
  5. We check the tightness of the connections of the drain system, between the pump and the pipes, as well as the water drain valve.
  6. If you have a centrifuge, check the tank for damage and cracks. If there are any, then we seal them with sealant or cold welding, after first removing the tank from the semi-automatic machine.

Repair of moving parts

In this paragraph we will talk about malfunctions associated with the engine and drive parts that rotate the drum or activator. If the centrifuge does not rotate during spinning, you must first ensure that the tank is not overloaded with laundry. To do this, take out some of the things and try turning on the spin cycle again. If nothing happens, then the machine will have to be disassembled.

The main problem in engine operation is the wear of the brushes; replacing them with your own hands can be difficult for someone who is going to do it for the first time. To change them, remove the engine of the semi-automatic machine. Then disconnect the wires from the brushes and remove the brushes. Take the new brushes and insert them the way the old ones were, that is, in the same direction of the ground corner. Then connect the wires and secure the motor in the car.

If the centrifuge motor fails, it will have to be replaced. Let's look at the replacement using the Siberia washing machine as an example.

  1. Using a 10mm wrench, unscrew the 6 bolts holding the top cover of the semi-automatic machine.
  2. Unscrew the tank nut. It is better to do this together, one should hold the centrifuge tank, and the second should unscrew the nut.
  3. We also remove the tank from the shaft together using a hammer. One holds, the other hits.

Note! You need to hit it with a hammer carefully, otherwise such repairs may result in new problems.

  1. If it’s going hard and you don’t even need to hammer the tank with a hammer, spray WD-40 liquid on the shaft and try again.
  2. We move the tank to the side, and then take out the mounting pin, which is inserted into the engine shaft.
  3. The next step is to lift the body of the machine and place it upside down.
  4. Carefully remove the motor from the washing machine body.

Now we just have to decide what to do with the old engine. You can try to restore it by giving it to a specialist to rewind it (rewinding it yourself is not an option), or you can find and purchase a working motor. Both options will be very expensive, it’s easier to buy a new semi-automatic washing machine, but if repairs are a matter of principle, then it’s up to you to decide.

Electrics

If the engine does not work correctly or does not work at all, it is not necessarily the problem. It is quite possible that the main reason lies in the electrics. To repair semi-automatic washing machines of this kind, you will have to get the electrical circuit for your “home assistant” model.

For your information! Absolutely all semi-automatic washing machines produced during the Soviet period were equipped with electrical circuits to simplify repairs. Modern semi-automatic machines come with only an instruction manual, but this does not mean that the diagram cannot be found on the Internet.

Before you start repairing the electrics of semi-automatic washing machines, you need to understand what exactly went wrong. Let's look at the symptoms. The main symptom is that the motor stops functioning during spinning, but works normally during washing. What possible breakdowns may occur?

  • One of the wires in the electrical circuit of the machine is broken or frayed. Old semi-automatic washing machines often have such problems.
  • The microswitch has failed, the thermal relay or time relay has broken.
  • The start relay or start capacitor has burnt out.
  • The transformer burned out.

How to determine what exactly is broken, how to check all these elements? Semi-automatic washing machines do not have a self-diagnosis system, so you will have to determine the cause yourself. You need to take an electrical diagram, look at the normal resistance of all the above parts, then arm yourself with a multimeter and check them all one by one, each module and each wiring. With some skill, this work will take 30-40 minutes.

If the fault is not found, repeat the check from the beginning, noting the modules that have already been checked; perhaps something was missed the first time. If a burnt element of the electrical circuit is detected, it must be replaced.

In conclusion, let us once again note a very important point. Before you start repairing a semi-automatic washing machine, evaluate its economic feasibility. Perhaps “the game is not worth the candle.” Good luck!

Review of semi-automatic washing machines

There are quite a few companies that produce such equipment. Let's take a look at the most popular ones.

Washing machine Eureka semi-automatic

The semi-automatic unit consists of a housing, a control unit and a washing tank. Its technical characteristics include:

  • The amount of water required for washing is 39 liters;
  • maximum weight of loaded items – 3 kg;
  • gentle and normal wash mode;
  • additional programs - four rinsing modes.

The body of the Eureka machine is made of stainless steel and has the shape of a parallelepiped. The equipment is equipped with a pump for draining and pumping water. It is equipped with fittings through which the soap solution is drained and clean water is supplied. The built-in removable filter needs to be cleaned regularly. The control unit is located on the top panel. It includes an information panel, a mode switch, a water level indicator and a time relay. The electrical cord is hidden in a special niche on the back wall of the case.

The disadvantage of the Eureka model is:

  • rigid fastening of the tank, due to which the unit moves during operation;
  • strong vibration during spinning;
  • there is no protection against increased foaming.

However, despite the disadvantages, the Eureka washing machine is very reliable in operation, performs high-quality washing and is capable of operating for a long time. The equipment costs significantly less than semi-automatic washing machines.

Brief description of famous models:

  1. Assol XPB 35-918 S. Compact activator equipment with two compartments. Load for washing – no more than 3.5 kg, for spinning – 2.5 kg. Laundry is loaded from the top. There are two programs for washing.
  2. Siberia-6. Semi-automatic unit with two washing modes (“Gentle mode” and “Normal mode”). In gentle mode, you can spin 1.5 kg of laundry, and in normal mode – 2 kg. Up to 37 liters of water are poured into the washing tank. The machine is equipped with a drain and linen tongs, a tray for draining liquid, and a protective mesh to prevent things from falling out of the centrifuge.
  3. Snow White B 5500-5LG. Functional unit with two compartments. You can wash up to 5.5 kg of laundry in it at a time. It has a built-in quite capacious centrifuge that can spin 5 kg of things at once.
  4. Slavda WS-60PET. Washing machine with centrifuge and activator. Washes up to 6 kg of laundry. Spinning occurs at a speed of 1350 rpm. You can squeeze 2.5 kg of things at a time. The machine has a built-in lint filter and imbalance control.
  5. Renova WS-60PT/PE. The semi-automatic machine with two compartments is notable for its spaciousness. She can wash 6 kg of laundry at once. The centrifuge will hold 2.5 kg of things, which it will spin at a speed of 1350 rpm. The equipment is simple, so it can work for many years without failure.
  6. Rolsen WVL-360D. A semi-automatic machine, the washing compartment of which holds 3.6 kg of clothes, and the spin compartment - 1.5 kg. The laundry is spun at a centrifuge speed of 1300 rpm. The model is efficient and reliable in operation.
  7. Fairy SM-25. The single-compartment activator unit is easy to use and low cost. It can handle washing 2.5 kg of laundry at a time. It has a convenient portable handle, which allows you to move and even carry the machine.
  8. Voltaire's Rainbow. The Russian-made model is equipped with a built-in activator and two washing modes. The unit weighs only 4.5 kg, so it can be easily carried and used in the countryside. The capacity of the washing drum is 2.5 kg.

Semi-automatic washing machines are indispensable in a home without running water. The equipment copes with its functions perfectly, providing good quality washing while saving water and light.

Wave 2M

Washing tank

The Wave washing compartment is made of high grade stainless steel and has a volume of 36 liters. The washing process is carried out using two plastic discs rotating in one direction at a speed of 600 rpm. Grooves are provided to drain dirty water to the pump. The pump is protected from small objects getting stuck or debris that may remain in clothing pockets by a mesh located at the bottom of the tank.

Centrifuge

Externally, this part is a truncated cone made of aluminum alloy. The laundry is dried at a rotation speed of 1400 rpm, so the spin phase lasts only a few minutes. The permissible weight of laundry is a maximum of 2 kilograms.

The Volna model has 2 pumps, one of which is responsible for pumping water out of the centrifuge and tank, the second for removing the solution from the washing compartment. The first pump runs all the time, and the second is activated only after the washing process is completed. This version of the equipment provides for the presence of one engine.

  1. plug the power cord into the outlet,
  2. install the self-timer lever.

The equipment is switched off automatically at the end of the time set on the timer.

The Volna 2M model differs from its predecessor by the presence of such additional characteristics as 2 types of work:

  1. Normal
  2. Berezhny

In normal mode, the activating element rotates clockwise, ensuring high-quality circulation of soapy liquid. Used for heavy and heavily soiled fabrics. The maximum allowable volume of items is 2 kilograms.

In gentle mode, the activator rotates counterclockwise, and the circulation of the soap solution does not have such intensity. Used for delicate and lightly soiled fabrics, including wool and silk. Load capacity is 1 kilogram.

The volume of the Volna 2M washing tank is 36 liters, just like the earlier model. One of the distinguishing characteristics of the presented model from its predecessor is the presence of two electric motors, one of which is responsible for rotating the washing tank, and the second drives the centrifuge.

  • Remove the main cover from the top of the equipment.
  • Take out the wire attached to the back wall and connect it to the network.
  • Fill the tank with hot or warm water, depending on the type of fabric, 1-15 centimeters above the indicated level. If the laundry was previously soaked, then water should be filled into the tank 2-3 centimeters below the indicated line.
  • Depending on the type of fabric and the degree of soiling, set the mode key to normal or gentle wash.
  • Turn the “WASH” time relay knob clockwise for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the required amount of liquid or dry powder to the water.
  • Set the relay for the required time.
  • Place each item of laundry into the device separately, do not allow air bubbles to form in the items. If the drum does not spin, it means you have exceeded the permissible volume of laundry, try removing 1-2 items.
  • Seal the tank cap.
  • The machine will finish washing automatically after the set time has elapsed. If you need to turn off the equipment faster, turn the timer relay counterclockwise, turning it on for 1-2 minutes.
  • Transfer the washed laundry from the washing tub to the drying tub and install the safety net.
  • Lower the centrifuge lid and set the switch to the “Spin” mode.

The rinsing process is carried out on the same principle as washing, only without the use of powder and at lower water temperatures.

Before transferring wet laundry to the spinner compartment, let it drain a little over the washing tub. Distribute the laundry evenly through the spinner: smaller items at the bottom and larger items at the top. Uneven filling of the basket can result in unwanted vibration of the tank, which can negatively affect the operation of the washing machine.

How to repair?

Repair of activator-type washing machines is often associated with routine maintenance or common malfunctions. For example, replacement of spare parts - bronze-graphite bearings on activators should be carried out every 3-4 years. Lubrication of rubbing parts - annually, using machine oil. If malfunctions are found, you can fix them yourself.

  1. The electric motor does not start when turned on. You need to check the presence of voltage in the network, test the socket for serviceability, and plug the plug into the network. If it doesn’t help, try another socket or check the wire for integrity.
  2. Water flows from the tank into the centrifuge compartment. The reason is a clogged bypass valve. The water needs to be drained, the laundry taken out, the machine placed on its side, and the faulty element removed. Unscrew the 6 nuts on it, remove the cover, pull off the membrane and mechanically clean the valve from accumulated debris, rinse it with water.
  3. The activator does not rotate, the electric motor hums. The cause may be overload with laundry, as well as a slipped drive belt. In the first case, it is enough to reduce the load. In the second, you will have to drain the water, lay the car on its side and return the belt to its normal position.
  4. Water is not pumped out. The hose may be pinched or the pump may be clogged. It is worth checking to see if there is any fallen laundry near the drain hole in the bottom of the centrifuge tank.
  5. During the spin cycle there is strong vibration and the speed does not pick up. This happens when the laundry is unevenly distributed inside. It is necessary to turn off the power supply and change the filling of the centrifuge.

These are the main malfunctions that can be encountered when operating Siberia washing machines with a centrifuge. Most of them, indeed, can be eliminated independently by the user and do not require contacting a service center.

Repair

Repairing washing machine faults requires skills in working with tools and at least minimal knowledge of electronic equipment. The approximate work plan presented below will allow you to avoid annoying mistakes and eliminate problems yourself.

Washing machine pumps

Even professionals rarely attempt to repair a broken drain pump. This device is not too expensive and is easier to replace entirely. The main thing is to find a part of a suitable brand in the store.

The pump is replaced as follows.

  1. Remove the bottom panel.
  2. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the pump from the machine body.
  3. By pressing on the drain valve from the outside, push the pump inside the housing and pull it out.
  4. Disconnect all wires leading to the pump.
  5. Remove the drain hose and pipe.
  6. Installing a new device.

After this, you need to reassemble the washing machine, performing all the steps in reverse order, put it in the working position and check the operation of the new part by turning on the wash without laundry.

Washing machine control module

In many models, the control board is located at the top of the front of the machine; removing it is not difficult. Having freed the substrate with the microcircuit from the fixing strips, you need to carefully examine it. Signs that repairs are needed include:

  • the plate has changed color in some places, the tracks have darkened;
  • torn capacitor caps;
  • The place where the main processor is installed has darkened.

If you discover one of these defects, it is better to immediately contact the workshop. After all, to repair a microcircuit you will need both the appropriate skills and the ability to work with a soldering iron.

Bearing replacement

If the washing machine starts spinning loudly, then one of the reasons may be damage to the bearing. To change bearings in a top-loading machine, you must:

  1. Disassemble the device body and remove the back wall.
  2. Remove the belt from the pulley, allowing access to the bearing system.
  3. Unscrew the central bolt securing the pulley to the drum and remove the pulley.
  4. Unscrew the three screws securing the structure and remove the coupling with bearings.
  5. Remove the O-ring and oil seal from the shaft, which will also have to be replaced.

Then all that remains is to install new parts and reassemble the washing machine, doing the work in reverse order.

Replacing the heating element

The heating element often requires replacement. It can burn out from long-term use or unstable voltage in the electrical network. From constant contact with water, the tubes of the heating device become covered with scale.

Changing the heating element is not difficult, you just need to do the following:

  1. Remove the back panel, since most often the heating element is located in the rear of the case.
  2. Disconnect the electrical appliance connection terminals.
  3. To remove a faulty heating element, you need to unscrew the nut using a wrench and press on the stud with a screwdriver. Use a twisting motion to remove the damaged part from the seal.
  4. Install the new part, trying to place the heating element evenly, without deforming the seal.
  5. Insert the stud into place, tighten the nut, and connect the wires.

By photographing the position of the parts and wires before disassembling, you can make your work much easier.

Shock absorbers and dampers

Shock absorbers and dampers protect the components of the washing device from vibration and premature destruction. However, these elements themselves wear out quickly and often require replacement.

It is enough to change the seals in the dampers. Replacing shock absorbers is a complex job that requires complete disassembly of the washing machine body. It is better to contact a service center with this problem.

Features and types

A semi-automatic washing machine is an indispensable assistant for owners of houses without a central water supply. No communications connection is required for it to work. The washing process here is controlled by the owner. Depending on the model, the following instructions for use are used:

  1. Water at the required temperature is poured into the compartment container.
  2. Things are loaded into the drum, and the required amount of washing powder is poured.
  3. The washing mode is selected and the unit starts.
  4. The washed laundry is transferred to the spin compartment.

While the equipment is operating, the spin and rinse mode will need to be turned on independently. When the wash cycle is completed, water is poured out using a hose and the tank is rinsed.

Since water is poured into these types of washing machines by hand, they need to be installed close to its source. A centrifuge rotating during spinning creates increased vibration. Therefore, semi-automatic equipment should be located on as horizontal a surface as possible. Otherwise the machine will move.

Types of semi-automatic machines

Semi-automatic washing machines can be of several types:

  1. With one compartment - units that do not include a centrifuge. This means that they do not spin.
  2. With two compartments, the machine not only washes and rinses, but also spins things. For this purpose, a centrifuge is built into it.
  3. Drum units - equipped with a metal drum, which is filled with dirty things. Such machines are rare. They are quite bulky and heavy.
  4. Activator - rotation and washing of clothes occurs due to the activator installed at the bottom of the tank. These are the most popular semi-automatic washing machines. This is explained by the fact that the activator mechanism is reliable, simple and cheap. Such models have small dimensions and weight.

Some models are equipped with programmable control or water heating. This increases their productivity and efficiency.

Peculiarities

The Siberia washing machine has been produced in Omsk since 1957; since 2007, the enterprise has not existed as an independent entity. Multifunctional models of equipment, equipped not only with a main tank, but also with a centrifuge, were especially popular. It was this product that brought fame to the brand. A number of features of this brand’s equipment can be noted.

  1. Manual control. Draining and other operations are carried out without connecting to network communications; there are minimal requirements for connection conditions.
  2. Energy efficiency. The machine does not consume large amounts of electricity, operating cycles are short - 5 or 3 minutes, depending on the type of operation. Water is also spent very sparingly, since it is poured into the tank manually.
  3. The presence of a delicate mode. You can wash not only coarse fabrics, but also delicate bedding and underwear.
  4. Simplicity of design. Most malfunctions and operational problems are eliminated on site without the involvement of outside help.
  5. No strict requirements for water hardness. The operating features of the equipment are such that scale and limescale simply do not appear.
  6. Possibility of using detergents of any class. The machine is undemanding when it comes to the quality of powder and bleach.
  7. Convenient vertical type of tank loading. It is much more convenient than the horizontal one.
  8. Possibility of simultaneous start of washing and spinning processes.
  9. The optimal cost of the unit is much lower than that of automatic analogues.

With their help, you can keep laundry clean in your country house or in a city apartment, ensuring high energy efficiency of the washing process.

Washing machine "Siberia-6"

Before plugging in the machine and using the washing machine yourself, carefully read the instruction manual. Make sure that the rated voltage indicated on the nameplate matches the mains voltage in the apartment. Before using the washing machine, you must remove the wire hook from below—1 fig. Do not operate the machine unnecessarily without filling the tank with water, as the bearing seals may be damaged. After purchasing a washing machine, claims from owners for incompleteness and external mechanical damage by the factory and warranty workshops will not be accepted. For frequently recurring voltage fluctuations, it is recommended to connect the machine to the electrical network through a voltage stabilizer or autotransformer.

How to remove a centrifuge from a washing machine Siberia

Time relay does not work

Remove the relay, the order of closing the contacts is indicated on the reverse side, check using the “continuity” method, replace if necessary.

The centrifuge tank hatch lid lock does not work

The simplest thing is to short-circuit the necessary blocking pins.

The electric motor capacitor has lost its capacity

Measure the capacitance or install a known-good capacitor.

The malfunction of the MBGP series capacitors (pictured on the left) is determined by their appearance; electrolyte leaks out of them and feels like grease to the touch.

Centrifuge motor burned out

Centrifuge electric motors on all semi-automatic washing machines of the Siberia type burn in most cases according to the following pattern: the bypass valve is clogged or broken, water begins to flow into the centrifuge tank, and drips onto the electric motor through the centrifuge cuff seal (see figure).

Therefore, replacement or repair of all of the above parts is necessary.

In addition, it is necessary to replace the suspension rubber bands (see figure).

Over time, they stretch out, and this leads to the fact that the centrifuge tank lowers and, with its base, tears the centrifuge cuff seal when rotating. The length of the new elastic band is 10 cm.

In order to remove the engine, unscrew the 6 screws of the top cover, use a 10mm wrench to hold the nuts on the back side, and remove the cover.

To unscrew the nut of the centrifuge tank (see figure), you will have to make a key.

We take a ¾-inch pipe, make two parallel cuts on it from the end with a hacksaw, bend the “ears”, and bend the pipe at an angle of 90 degrees.

Model overview

The design of Siberia semi-automatic washing machines with a centrifuge is quite simple and varies little depending on the model. Its standard dimensions are 670x375x700 mm, weight is about 40 kg. This is non-mobile equipment - the equipment is quite weighty and must be installed independently. Let's note the most important design elements.

  1. Electrical diagram. It includes a block of capacitors and a control panel, a time relay, an underwater harness, 2 electric motors, and a microswitch. Protective casing made of polyethylene and outer panel made of polystyrene.
  2. Bypass valve. It serves to drain water or cleaning solution from the tank and is connected to the general hydraulic system of the machine.
  3. Activator drive unit. This includes a motor and a pulley, through which the force from shaft rotation is transmitted to the activator.
  4. Centrifuge rotary drive and suspension system. They drive the rotating tank of the squeezing device.
  5. Centrifugal pump. With its help, water is pumped from the machine’s hydraulic system into the drain system.
  6. Activator. This is a disk element mounted on a vertically located shaft, which, when rotated, moves the mass of laundry being washed.
  7. Chassis. Running rollers, stands for tanks, a drive motor, a capacitor block and a bypass valve are attached to it.
  8. Washing tub made of sheet aluminum.

All these elements are included in the design of each washing machine. But the brand’s lineup offers slightly greater variety.

"Siberia-3M"

This is the first model produced since 1966 under the Siberia brand. It had a characteristic difference - a shaped tank, a control panel with buttons was placed on the front of the body. This is one of the first machines with a centrifuge, the main parts were made of corrosion-resistant aluminum.

"Siberia-5" or "Siberia-5M"

The two-tank washing machine of the Sibir-5 model has been produced since 1968. It has a weight of 40 kg, compact dimensions 375x675x700 mm and controls. It uses a 600 rpm activator and a 2800 rpm centrifuge motor. The tank holds 37 liters of water.

"Sibir-5M" is considered an improved version. For the first time in the brand's models, time relays were used instead of push-button control. The machine has reduced vibration, and an additional filter was installed for the hydraulic system.

"Siberia-6"

The most popular model, which had a power of 600 W. It has 2 washing modes, the tank volume reaches 37 liters. Under normal operating conditions, up to 2 kg of dry laundry can be placed inside. This indicator is relevant for both the centrifuge and the washing compartment. Spinning is carried out to a residual moisture content of no more than 55%.

The activator in the model rotates at a speed of 600 rpm, the centrifuge - 2700 rpm. The machine is quite heavy, weighing 45 kg, but does not require additional strengthening of the base.

Useful tips

Before you start repairing a semi-automatic washing machine, you should prepare the necessary tools and equipment. It is better to find out what exactly you may need from the documentation for the device or search on the Internet. The fact is that some manufacturers use non-standard fastening methods and components.

Namely, to disassemble the Siberia washing machine you will need a special key. If a branded one is missing, you will have to make it yourself from a 3/4-inch piece of water pipe. Similar problems can arise when removing individual parts of the housing. Thus, in Fairy and Saturn machines, the top panel moves to the side after unscrewing the fastening screw for the back cover.

Some problems can be corrected with careful inspection. Unfortunately, all manufacturers use open bolts and screws. In machines from Krista, Daewoo and others, the fastener is hidden under plastic plugs. Therefore, a careful inspection and removal check with little effort will help you find all the necessary bolts and screws.

Difficulties can also appear with individual nodes. In particular, the activator on Slavda and similar models cannot be democratically pulled out by hand. The body of the unit is smooth and rounded. To pull it off, you will need to screw a couple of screws into the assembly and pull them. To this day, it is best to look for these disassembly features on specialized forums, perhaps in YouTube videos.

And of course, it is recommended to find a circuit diagram of the machine. The beloved will give not only information about the values of individual elements, but also relative knowledge of their relative position.

Modern EMS can be called a simple device and control system. Some faults can only be repaired by a qualified specialist - an artisan. But by carefully following the tips described above, taking your time and carefully following the required course of action, you can repair the washing machine yourself! Despite the fact that a semi-automatic machine is often bought for a summer residence or other places where there is no running water, such as rural areas, it also requires careful handling. Follow the rules of prevention, and the machine will stop serving you without breakdowns much longer!

Characteristic differences of semi-automatic devices

A semi-automatic machine with a centrifuge is an excellent solution for those who are not connected to the central water supply system. The washing machine is perfect for owners of summer cottages. The device uses water economically, copes well with the task and is easy to use.

The washing machine is:

  • drum (has a metal drum into which laundry is loaded);
  • activator (the device works thanks to a device built into the bottom of the tank).

If we talk about the advantages of these types, the activator machine is a more advantageous option. It attracts with its characteristics:

  • ease of installation;
  • low cost;
  • compactness and light weight;
  • reduced foaming;
  • reliability.

The activator machine also has disadvantages:

  • there is no possibility to select the washing mode;
  • water is poured manually, and it must first be heated;
  • Most models do not have a spin function.

Semi-automatic machines with a centrifuge have certain distinctive features from fully automatic ones:

  1. A semi-automatic washing machine with a centrifuge loads laundry only vertically.
  2. It cannot boast of a sufficient number of modes.
  3. After turning on the washing machine, you need to stay at home to add water at the right time, transfer the laundry to the spinner, etc.
  4. The device washes well and quickly.

Advantages and disadvantages

A semi-automatic washing machine has many advantages:

  1. Modest dimensions. Allows you to install the product even in the tightest spaces.
  2. Light weight. Easily moved within a house/apartment or transported in a car.
  3. Economical. A semi-automatic machine, including Siberia, uses much less water and electrical energy during the washing process.
  4. Vertical loading. This is especially convenient when you need to add things to the machine while working.
  5. Reliability and ease of use. A semi-automatic washing machine does not require the use of any special care products or softeners for hard water. For automatic devices, such tools are simply necessary.
  6. In washing machines with a centrifuge, you can turn on two modes at once: washing and spinning.
  7. The operation of the device does not depend in any way on the water supply system and sewerage system. You first need to pour water into the machine yourself, and then pour it out.

Disadvantages include low functionality. Such products do not have the same set of operating programs as automatic machines.

Other causes of centrifuge malfunctions in semi-automatic machines

It is very difficult to list all the reasons for breakdowns of the spin system. Different car models have their own nuances. However, if you can repair it yourself, you will save a lot of money.

Let's look at the most common reasons for the spin system to malfunction.

  1. The motor hums loudly, but the spin does not start. This means that the belt that connects the centrifuge and motor pulleys has broken or slipped off.
  2. When using the machine for a long time, the rubber diaphragm bushing may wear out. A large gap between the parts will prevent the spin cycle from starting. To make the machine work, the bushing needs to be replaced.
  3. If you checked the electric motor and made sure that it is working, then the reason may be a faulty thermal relay or a step-down transformer. These parts cannot be repaired and must be replaced with new ones.
  4. It would also be a good idea to check whether small things are wrapped around the electric motor shaft. They may fly out during the spin cycle and end up in the middle of the machine.
  5. Laundry placed unevenly inside the centrifuge can cause it to wobble and prevent it from starting.
  6. If the activator spin motors do not work, it would be a good idea to check the fuse, which is located in the middle of the machine behind the rear panel. You can also check the electrical plug (contacts).

A semi-automatic washing machine cannot be called a simple mechanism. Therefore, some types of faults can only be corrected by a specialist.

However, if you carefully follow our advice, carry out the necessary actions carefully and without haste, then you will be able to repair your washing machine yourself, without outside help. This is especially true for repairing a centrifuge in a semi-automatic washing machine.

What kind of breakdowns happen?

A semi-automatic washing machine is considered simpler, but nevertheless it has an impressive list of possible breakdowns. This is ensured by a specific design. If a semi-automatic machine is not working, it could be due to a number of reasons.

Engine does not start during spin cycle

A failure can be caused by burnt contacts or broken wiring powering the electric motor. The timer, temperature sensor or motor could be broken; capacitor or relay responsible for starting the engine. Transformer failure cannot be ruled out.

And worn brushes are the cause of motor failure in every second semi-automatic type SM. In this case, disassembly and repair of the motor are required, accompanied by replacement of the brushes.

The engine is working fine, the centrifuge does not spin

If the SM with a centrifuge does not spin, but the engine works, it is not a fact that this is a breakdown. You may have overloaded the tank with wet laundry. But the brake blocking the drum may also malfunction.

The drum may also jam due to too much water or debris, small objects, or laundry getting into the tank. Then there is no need for repairs - just disassemble the tank and remove the foreign body.

The engine works, but the drum does not spin (Slavda)

Probable reasons for such a failure of the Slavda brand SM:

  • The laundry is bunched up and lies on one side, causing the rotor to swing and hit the tank. This blocks the spin and operation of the machine.
  • With a long service life, the bushings could wear out. If they are broken, the rotor does not spin as expected - repair is required.
  • The drive belt has slipped or broken. You need to put the unit back in place or replace it.

The machine leaks when spinning

Let's name 8 reasons for this failure:

  1. The tank is damaged and leaking.
  2. Fasteners have broken or stretched, or the connections between hoses and centrifuge parts have become loose. The weak point is the connection of the hoses to the pump or tank.
  3. The diaphragm has failed or its fastenings have been damaged.
  4. The cuff on the drain valve has dried out or torn.
  5. The drain pump housing is damaged.
  6. The water drain valve mechanism is broken.
  7. The pipe or hose is damaged.
  8. The lid seals on the drain pump are damaged, so the pump leaks water.

The pump drains poorly or does not work at all

Reasons for drain failure: clogged drain hose or pump. You shouldn’t rule out a breakdown of the impeller - when it happens, the water drainage first slows down and then disappears.

The machine can retain water for a long time due to mechanical reasons that are not breakdowns:

  • Laundry accidentally fell into the drain hole of the centrifuge.
  • The water drain hose is kinked or pinched.

Water flows from one tank to another

If water “migrates” from the wash tub into the spin tank, then the overflow hole has failed. A more accurate reason is the wear of the valve rubber, due to which water is not retained in the drum. You can't do without repairs.

The semi-automatic machine does not turn on

When the SM does not start, the reason must be sought in the electrics - it could be a breakdown of the plug, power cord or relay. Often a failure occurs when the motor fails. Maintenance and electrical repairs and engine inspection are required.

General recommendations

In order for the Sibir-6 washing machine to work without failures, you need to follow simple recommendations. Most of them are written down in the instructions for use:

Before connecting the device to the electrical network, you must carefully read the instructions. When purchasing, you must request the seller to conduct a test run. It is important that the voltage in the network matches that written in the manual. It is strictly forbidden to use the machine if it is above 242 V or below 198 V. Before starting washing, you need to remove the elements that secure the motor of the Siberia washing machine

How to do this is shown in the diagram in the instructions. If the device was purchased in winter, at least 4 hours must pass before it can be used after being brought into the house. If there is no water in the tank, it is not recommended to turn on the device. You cannot switch operating modes during washing. Do not use a boiler to heat water in the tank.

Following these tips will extend the life of your machine and avoid repairs.

Siberia-6

User manual

After purchasing a Siberia washing machine, it is important to remove the fixing elements installed on the motor. At low atmospheric temperatures, at least 4 hours must pass from the moment the equipment enters the house until it starts. The machine cannot be started without water - the motor will fail; you should also avoid heating the water in the tank using a boiler or switching modes after starting the washing process.

The washing procedure includes a number of steps.

  • Sorting laundry by type and color of material.
  • Selecting the operating mode. Delicate – washes delicate materials, natural wool and silk.
  • Filling the tank with water. If necessary, its temperature is adjusted in advance or heated to the desired temperature.
  • Adding detergent directly into the tank. You can use regular or liquid options.
  • Loading laundry according to standards. In normal mode the limit is 2.5 kg, in delicate mode – 1.5 kg.
  • Setting the timer. After this, the machine starts working, the equipment is connected to the network.
  • Draining. Performed at the end of the wash cycle.
  • Rinsing. Clean water is poured into the tank. The activator starts working for 2 minutes. Then the procedure is repeated, the water is changed and drained after each rinse.
  • Things are transferred to the centrifuge compartment using tongs or manually, and the spin cycle starts for 3 minutes.
  • The machine is disconnected from the network, the laundry is taken out and hung.

Semi-automatic Siberia-6

Reasons for a non-working centrifuge

There are several reasons that cause the problem:

  • Damage to the safety sensor.
  • Brake pads.
  • There is a problem with the timer.
  • Damage to the electrical winding.
  • Other causes of malfunctions.

Damage to the safety sensor

Some models, such as Daewoo or Saturn, have a sensor on the door that closes the centrifuge tank. It is needed to disable startup. To get to it, you will need to remove the top panel of the washing machine - under it there is a sensor with 2 contacts that need to be treated with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. There is no need to scratch the contacts with a knife or clean them with sandpaper. Then you need to check the operation of the sensor. The contacts must close when the cover is closed.

Brake pads

What is the principle of braking in semi-automatic cars?

The brake pads are installed under the centrifuge, and thus slow it down when opening.

The pads are connected to the cover using a cable. When the lid is opened, the cable is tensioned and

The pads fit around the part of the engine that rotates. Thus, the centrifuge stops.

It is necessary to open the rear wall of the brake pad and check how the cable is tensioned so that the pads do not touch the engine when the door is closed, since touching the brake pads may prevent the electric motor from starting.

Timer fault

In most semi-automatic washing machines (SMP), the timer is located under the top panel of the device. It can be repaired by cleaning the contacts.

There are many tips on how to remove the panel, since washing machines from different companies are designed differently.

Once you remove the top panel, you will notice a device that resembles a clock with gears.

There are contacts inside this device that can burn out over a long period of use. The reason is soot, which does not allow current to pass through.

It is necessary to disassemble the timer very carefully, since the cover of this mechanism also serves to attach gears to it. Having unscrewed all the screws, you need to remove it in such a way that the gear wheels do not fall out when opening

If you're worried that you won't be able to open the lid carefully, then it's better to play it safe and take a photo of the entire mechanism. After removing the cover you will notice the contacts. They need to be wiped with alcohol, just like in the sensor.

Damage to the electrical winding

Very often, the burnout of one of the windings of the electric motor is the cause of its breakdown.

This can be checked using a tester, that is, a measuring device. Here are three steps on how to do it.

  1. First, we find the ends of the wires that come out of the electric motor. Usually there are three wires: the first is common, the second is the one that leads to the starting winding, and the third leads to the working winding. Usually the common wire is marked with the letter “N” and is blue.
  2. You need to set the resistance test on the device, and measure it between the common wire and one of the other two, for example, red. If the resistance readings of the device are present on the screen, then everything is in order with this winding.
  3. We do the same with another pair, with a common and, say, white wire. Then we measure the resistance and note the readings of the device. If there is no resistance, then this means that the winding has burned out. That is, the reason that the centrifuge in your semi-automatic machine does not work is a malfunction of the electric motor.

In this case, there are two options: buy and install a new motor or recycle the old one.

Useful tips

Before you start repairing a semi-automatic washing machine, you should prepare the necessary tools and equipment. It is better to find out what exactly you may need from the documentation for the device or search on the Internet. The fact is that some manufacturers use non-standard fastening methods and components.

For example, to disassemble the Siberia washing machine you will need a special key. If you don't have a branded one, you'll have to make your own from a 3/4-inch piece of water pipe. Similar problems can arise when removing individual parts of the housing. So, in Fairy and Saturn cars, the top panel moves to the side after unscrewing the fastening screw on the back cover.

Some problems can be corrected with careful inspection. Not all manufacturers use open bolts and screws. In cars from Krista, Daewoo and others, part of the fasteners is hidden under plastic plugs. Therefore, a careful inspection, checking removal with little effort will help you find all the necessary bolts and screws.

Difficulties may arise with individual nodes. In particular, the activator on Slavda and similar models simply cannot be pulled out by hand. The body of the unit is smooth and rounded. To remove it, you will need to screw a couple of screws into the assembly and pull them. It is best to look for all these disassembly features on specialized forums or in YouTube videos.

A modern EMS cannot be called a simple device. Some faults can only be repaired by a qualified specialist - a master. But by carefully following the tips described above, taking your time and carefully performing the required actions, you can repair the washing machine yourself! Despite the fact that a semi-automatic machine is often bought for a summer house or other places where there is no running water, such as rural areas, it also requires careful handling. Follow the rules of prevention, and the machine will serve you much longer without breakdowns!

Device

The instructions for the Siberia washing machine with a centrifuge contain information regarding its design. It is shown in the form of a diagram, as in the photo. The design consists of the following parts:

  • tank;
  • disc-shaped activator;
  • centrifuge;
  • vertical rotor;
  • top cover;
  • chassis;
  • Front Panel.

The machine has a 180 W motor and a rotation speed of 1350 rpm.

Design and principle of operation of "Siberia-6"

The activator has several blades, which during rotation foam the detergent. In normal mode, the activator rotates counterclockwise and allows you to effectively clean linen and cotton items. In gentle mode, the activator rotates a little slower and in the opposite direction. Used to clean silk and other delicate items.

A different motor is used to operate the centrifuge. It has a power of 120 W and a speed of 2700 rpm. Spinning is carried out only with the lid closed. If it is opened, the microswitch will trip and the motor will stop running.

As the diagram of the Siberia washing machine shows, both engines are mounted on rubber shock absorbers, which help reduce noise and vibration. Rubber spare parts (gaskets) are also used to connect all components.

As you can see in the photo, there is a control panel on the front of the machine. It consists of several parts:

  • mode switch;
  • centrifuge switch handle;
  • activator switch handle.

There are also two time scales that allow you to select the operating time in manual mode.

How to care?

The main care for Siberia brand washing machines is to keep the tanks and hoses clean. It is unacceptable to leave equipment with water for a long time. After each use, it must be thoroughly washed and freed from soap scum and other contaminants.

Maintaining the centrifuge unit is also easy. It must be periodically cleaned of fringes and fibers accumulating on the walls, and wiped with a clean damp cloth. The outer surface of the housing can be cleaned with chemically non-aggressive detergents.

The manufacturer recommends that you always remove the embedded bottom from the tank. It is taken out with the hook included in the kit. When flushing the system after work, fill in 10-12 liters of clean water. Next, just take the hose into the sewer and turn the spin control clockwise. After this, the machine is de-energized, dried for 2-3 hours open, and wiped dry with a soft cloth.

For a review of the Siberia washing machine, see the video below.

Why did the centrifuge stop?

You can identify the reason why the spin cycle of your washing machine does not work without the help of a professional. The semi-automatic device is very simple, so you won’t have to look for a problem for a long time. The centrifuge usually stops spinning:

  • due to damage to the starting capacitor of the electric motor;
  • due to loose brake cable.

To diagnose the capacitor you will need a special device. Therefore, the easiest way is to immediately replace it with a new part with a nominal capacity. The fact that an element needs to be replaced will be indicated by strained, slow operation of the machine. It will be difficult to gain speed; even after a couple of minutes the tank will not be able to spin up to the required speed. You can actually check the cable with your own hands. To do this, you need to close the lid of the semiautomatic device or close the control limit switch. Then you should try to rotate the centrifuge tank. If it rotates tightly, you need to tighten the cable to factory settings.

If everything is in order with the starting capacitor and cable, it is worth inspecting the walls of the centrifuge. If they have cracks, it is likely that water from the tank has leaked onto the engine and the engine has “short-circuited”. In this situation, you will have to change the drive and install a new oil seal. If you do not find any defects on the centrifuge tank, check the contacts. The connection can fail for many reasons. It may be possible to fix the washing machine by replacing or tightening the wire.

Recommendations for using Siberia

For uninterrupted operation of the unit, you must carefully study the instructions and follow the rules for operating the washing machine. First of all, you should check that the mains voltage matches the voltage specified in the manual. It is strictly forbidden to use equipment if it exceeds 242 V or is below 198 V. Before the first start, the elements securing the motor of the equipment must be removed. This can be done by referring to the appropriate diagram indicated in the operating instructions.

If the purchase of Siberia 6 was made in winter, then before the first wash, the equipment must stand in the room for at least 4 hours. Do not turn on the machine if there is no water in the water tank. Also, while the machine is operating, you cannot switch the equipment from one mode to another. The water supply must be at the required temperature. It is strictly forbidden to heat the water in the tank using a boiler. By following these simple rules, you will significantly extend the life of your washing machine and avoid premature repairs.

The control panel of the washing machine consists of the following elements:

  • mode switch,
  • centrifuge switch handles,
  • activator switch handles.

Before starting the washing process, it is necessary to sort the laundry, dividing it into colored, white, dark, and also according to the degree of soiling. Thanks to this, you will be able to avoid re-dying fabrics and will be able to achieve the desired cleanliness of things.

The washing process is carried out in several simple steps:

  • using the switch, you must select the appropriate washing mode,
  • then you need to fill the tank with water at a temperature appropriate for the type of fabric,
  • pour washing powder or liquid detergent,
  • load laundry,
  • set the washing time (washing one batch takes from 2 to 5 minutes),
  • if the machine does not start after turning on, then you have exceeded the permissible weight of the laundry, therefore, you need to remove 1-2 items from the washing tank,
  • after the washing process is completed, it is necessary to remove the dirty water and fill the tank with clean water for further rinsing, which is recommended to be done twice for 2 minutes,
  • At the final stage, things are spun out. Due to the high speed of the centrifuge, things must be evenly distributed inside it.
