Dictionary of translation into Russian of foreign designations of washing modes in a washing machine

Basic icons in different languages of the world

The first most important button in any machine is the start key. If the Russified control unit says “On/Off”, then in the English version this is traditionally designated as Start/Stop or On/Off; the Germans called this button Ein/Aus; Italians sign Marchia/Arresto.

As for adjusting the spin speed, in washing machines with an English-language panel this functionality is signed as RPM, in German ones - U/min, in Italian ones - Giri.

Just as in many domestic models, the lists of functions can be divided into two categories - the main ones and those that are used less often:

  • In the English version, these blocks will be signed as main and special.
  • In German SMAs, the word Primar is indicated instead of main.
  • In Italian-made cars, the main block is called Base.

If the machine is equipped with an electronic control system and the selection of functions is via the display, then to enter the list of main modes, you should select Main Menu. If your machine comes with a remote control, then look for such a button on it.

Basic symbols on washing machines

At first glance, it seems that there is nothing difficult in translating using a dictionary of foreign notations. But this takes time, which a person may not have. For example, if the “On/Off” button in English it may be clear - Start/Stop, then German or Italian designations may be incomprehensible to those who have not studied them. In Italian the same button is labeled "Marchia/Arresto" and in German as "Ein/Aus".

The maximum spin speed is also indicated differently in different languages:

  • devices with English names mark the option as “RPM”;
  • Italian – “Giri”;
  • German – “U/min”.

Typically, various controls are divided into several blocks, which also have their own designations. This may be a group of basic functions and any additional groups. Please note that on electronically controlled devices, the main menu button is designated “main menu”.

As for the main groups, they usually look like this:

  • English – “Special” and “Main”;
  • Italian – “Base”;
  • German – “Primar”.

The indicators also have their own designations. You also need to know them, since they warn about the operation of the machine and possible problems. For example, these are the designations of indicators on equipment with an English-language interface:

  • “On/Off” is another option for indicating the start of work;
  • “Time to end cycle” – time until the end of the cycle (shows how much is left until the end of the work);
  • “Wash Load (kg)” – shows how much laundry (in kg) can be washed in one work session;
  • “Portholes” – shows the status of the loading opening;
  • “Wash Performance” - this indicator shows the washing class;
  • “Spin Performance” – the spin class is shown here;
  • “Energy Rating” - this class determines the energy consumption of the machine (devices with an A++ rating are considered the best and most environmentally friendly);
  • “Wash Consumption” – the amount of water spent on washing is shown here;
  • “energy saving trust” (“energy recommended”) – shows that the machine is certified by the commission of the same name;
  • “Noise level” – shows the noise level (the lower the parameter, the quieter the unit will be).

It is worth noting that these symbols may be present on the machine depending on its type. Different types of machines can add their own functions and indicators. Indicators may differ in form, which is important to consider.

Other modes on the control panel

To effectively wash things on a German machine, you need to translate almost the entire dashboard into Russian. Every “German” has a fairly rich “arsenal” of programs and functions - it’s better to get to know them in advance. It is enough to learn about 20 notations presented below.

  • The literal translation from German is “special soaking.” Allows you to soak heavily soiled laundry in soapy water for a longer time. Suitable for cotton, chintz, linen and other durable materials.
  • It is a basic wash suitable for all types of textiles.
  • In Russian it sounds like “hot wash”, and is similar in functionality to intensive mode. With this program, clothes are literally boiled: the water is heated above 60 degrees, and the cycle lasts more than an hour. It is worth understanding that only products made from durable natural fabrics can withstand such a “test”: bedding, towels, cotton shirts, work items.
  • Designed for washing colors. To preserve the pigment, the heating cannot be set above 60 degrees.

German washing machines have a mixed mode, designated by the word “Mix”.

  • Convenient universal “mixed” mode, which can simultaneously wash different types of colored fabrics.
  • Separate mode for cleaning denim.
  • Translated as “light wash”. Designed for cleaning delicate fabrics with minor stains. Perfect for refreshing underwear, blouses, shirts and colored synthetic tulle.
  • Offers easy ironing. Due to the gentle spinning and smooth rotation of the drum during washing, the laundry practically does not wrinkle, and the folds and creases on the clothes are smoothed out without an iron.

  • This means delicate washing. It is activated when cleaning products made from synthetics, cotton, silk, lace and other delicate fabrics. The cycle involves minimal heating and turning off the spin cycle. The latter can be launched additionally after the end of the mode. An important point is that on Feinwasche the drum is loaded only half of the permitted volume.
  • Wolle, Seide. Special program for washing wool and silk items. It is an improved version of the delicate mode: smoother rotation of the drum, heating up to 30 degrees, minimal spin. Only half loads are allowed here too.
  • This program washes women's underwear. The washing machine washes delicate fabric as carefully as possible, without deforming the items and maintaining the original softness and color.
  • Translated as “impregnation”. A special mode for cleaning clothes made of waterproof material. When activated, you need to pour a special detergent into the dispenser to restore the protective properties of textiles.
  • This is “Sport”, designed for cleaning sports items and shoes.
  • Blitz, 30° 30min. A quick wash that can be used to refresh lightly soiled clothes. The cycle lasts up to 30 minutes, and on some washing machines – up to 20. There is no water heating, spinning is at maximum. The drum should be loaded at 1.5-3 kg.
  • A short, intensive program for cleaning products made from natural materials. Temperatures may rise to 60 degrees.
  • Offers washing clothes with economical energy consumption. Savings are achieved by adjusting the rotation of the drum and increasing the cycle duration while maintaining water heating to 60 degrees. Thanks to the optimal duration, stains are removed as at 90 degrees.
  • Schleudern (Schonschleudern). Spin with adjustable speed.
  • Pumpen (Abpumpen). When the function is activated, water is automatically pumped out of the tank into the sewer system.

In order to wash without problems on a German machine, you need to understand its dashboard in advance. The first step is to correctly translate all unfamiliar terms into Russian.

Translation of washing modes and programs from Italian

The Italians turned out to be the most taciturn - they did not provide many symbols on the control panel. However, you may encounter these Italian words:

Mode/Option/FunctionTranslation from Italian into Russian
pre-lavaggioWash.
pre-lavaggioPrewash.
forte lavaggioIntensive cycle.
lavaggio rapidoFast program.
lavaggio a manoManual (gentle) mode.
risciacquiRinse selection.

ritardatore di partenzaDelay cycle stop.

Attention! The icons drawn on the control panel will help you navigate - they are often intuitive and easy to remember.

If you can't remember all the functions in English, German or Italian, but you often use different options, you can print out any of these lists and stick them next to the machine or rename the buttons.

Or maybe translating functions on a washing machine will encourage you to take up a new hobby - learning foreign languages.

Translation of designations for operating modes and types of fabric

28.06.2005

“Help me figure out the control panel of my washing machine,” “where can I find user instructions for a model that has long been discontinued?” — consumers often make similar requests to forums on the Internet, to trading organizations or representative offices of manufacturing companies. We moved from apartment to apartment and lost a brochure, rented an apartment and received a stranger’s washing machine with it - all these everyday situations sometimes baffle the owner of a washing machine. Unfortunately, the control panel of a car is not always equipped with inscriptions in Russian or unambiguous pictograms. “Intuitive interface” - this is what computer scientists say about the menu of well-written programs, meaning that any “teapot” can cope with the necessary operations without much difficulty. The same goes for washing machines - in the latest, most sophisticated models you will find a Russian-language display with tips and a detailed brochure with instructions. What if you inherited an “old lady” with strange inscriptions on the panel? No problem, let's try to figure it out...

The following short dictionary gives the meanings of terms that can most often be found on the panel of a washing machine. These are designations of its operating modes (and the corresponding buttons, keys, sectors of the rotary handle), as well as types of fabric.
