Deciphering error code A2
A2 is most likely not an error, but a notification from the system that the temperature in the chamber is not sufficient for storing food. Therefore, by and large, there is no need to worry ahead of time. Judging by the manual, error a2 stands for “not normal for cooling capacity.” This can happen if the system has not reached the required temperature within a certain amount of time. In simple terms, error a2 - the Ariston refrigerator does not cool properly.
Why?
There may be several reasons for this. This error is generated by a refrigerator with a No Frost system - this should definitely be taken into account during diagnostics. Briefly the reasons are:
These are not all the reasons why Hotpoint Ariston refrigerators display error a2. We discussed the lack of cooling in more detail in this article: why the refrigerator does not cool.

Features of repair operations
From the information listed, it is clear that in reality much depends not so much on the indication of individual errors, but on the qualifications of the technician performing the repair operations. A good specialist will not only quickly identify the problem. He will offer the best way to solve problems with minimal investment of time and money. As an example, we use the error codes of SamsungSidebySide refrigerators with the features of repair operations. Indication is carried out using light-up LED segments. Their exact location can be found in the official operating instructions. Enter self-diagnosis mode by simultaneously pressing the Quick Freeze/Cool buttons. Flashing of certain fragments will inform the user about the following Samsung refrigerator errors:
- The Italian company specializes in the production of household appliances around the world. The brands Indesit, Ariston, and since 2005 - Hotpoint Ariston, belong to one company, Indesit Company. After the merger of the concern with the American Hotpoint, refrigerators began to have a double name. Ariston brands are no longer produced. The Hotpoint Ariston brand has earned the trust of customers. The devices use new technologies, materials, and style. At the same time, the price of the models remains affordable for mass demand.
- uncharacteristic compressor noise with knocking and vibration;
- intense freezing of ice in the chambers;
- the motor is humming, but the capacitor is cold;
- The compressor does not work, it turns on and off with a loud click.
- Thermostat malfunction. Then the command to turn on may not follow and the temperature in the cabinets will rise. If the thermostat does not command the motor to stop, the food in the positive chamber will freeze.
- Ice freezing is possible due to air from the room entering the chamber through leaks in the door or a torn seal or a malfunction in the drip defrost.
- The compressor can work without stopping if there is a freon leak due to a circuit break, and there is not enough cold or no cold at all.
- A plug in the capillary tube will create back pressure and the symptoms will be similar to lack of refrigerant.
Despite the discontinuation of the line of refrigerators under the Ariston brand, many devices are in operation. Therefore, spare parts for troubleshooting Ariston double-chamber and single-chamber refrigerators continue to be produced.
Ariston refrigerators have electromechanical control, one compressor for two chambers. The quality and functionality of the equipment is higher than that of Indesit models. Typical failures include:
All these signs indicate a compressor failure, but they can also accompany other faults. Diagnostics will help determine the exact cause. However, all of the problems listed above require stopping and defrosting the refrigerator and calling a technician.
Maintaining the temperature in the chambers is the main task of all devices. Any deviation requires the parameter to be restored. That's why the compressor runs non-stop, causing wear and tear.
The reasons may be:
It is important that if problems arise with your Ariston refrigerator, you call a specialist. Diagnostics will help to find the root cause and eliminate the breakdown. Immediate action should be taken if the refrigerator “shocks” an electric current, the light in the chamber goes out even if the light bulb and button are working. The restoration of the electrical circuit should be carried out by a master using instruments.

Errors A1 and A2
These codes are associated with problems maintaining the temperature in the refrigerator and freezer compartments of the appliance. If error codes A1 or A2 are displayed on the Ariston display screen, this means that either in the refrigerator compartment or in the freezer the temperature exceeds the established norm. The causes of such malfunctions may be the following:
- The fan is frozen over and cold air simply does not pass into the refrigerator compartment.
- The evaporator sensor is broken or frozen.
- The heater has burned out.
- There were interruptions in the operation of the main board.
To solve problems yourself without contacting a specialist, you can do the following:
- Perhaps the refrigerator or freezer door does not fit tightly due to wear on the seal or hinges. You can change the seal yourself, tighten or replace the door fastenings.
- There is no electricity. You need to try rebooting the system and turning on the refrigerator again.
- Defrosting the refrigerator can help solve the problem.
- It is also worth checking the operation of the thermostat and the correctness of the values set on it.
Video: eliminating errors A1 and A2
When everything is fine with the Ariston refrigerator
Before calling a technician, check the refrigerator using the checklist described below. Perhaps you have a simple problem that can be easily dealt with on your own, or perhaps the refrigerator is supposed to work that way.
- We put a lot of fresh food in the freezer. Therefore, the temperature in the chamber increased and code A2 lit up on the display. Wait up to 24 hours for the refrigerator to freeze the food. Also, in this case, we recommend using the Super Freeze function to freeze the food faster.
- We just turned on the new Hotpoint-Ariston refrigerator. It takes up to 24 hours for the refrigerator to reach the set temperature in the freezer, especially if you immediately loaded food into the freezer. Be patient, when the refrigerator reaches temperature, error A2 will disappear.
- Just turned on the refrigerator after defrosting. The situation is exactly the same as with a new refrigerator. Wait a while for the refrigerator to reach temperature, and error A2 will disappear on its own.
- Forgot to close the freezer door. If you left the freezer open for a long time, the temperature in it naturally increased, which led to the error. If after closing the refrigerator continues to show A2, defrost it. It is possible that while the door was ajar, ice formed in the freezer, which prevents the refrigerator from cooling.
- The refrigerator has not been defrosted for a long time (for models without No Frost). During this time, a lot of ice froze in the freezer compartment and the cooling capacity decreased. Defrost the refrigerator.

Unpleasant smell
Of course, the remains of rotten food can create an unpleasant odor, so, first of all, it is worth carrying out a global check for old borscht and wilted grass. But if after the inspection the smell remains, there may be a little more complicated reasons for this. For example, if it has been unplugged for a long time, an unpleasant musty smell may remain inside. Only general cleaning can help deal with it.
The Indesit freezer provides maximum protection for your products from unpleasant odors, so if you don’t really like to wash everything until it shines and squeaks, this option will definitely suit you.
Starting a single-phase asynchronous electric motor
At their core, compressor motors installed in modern refrigerators are single-phase asynchronous electric motors with a starting winding. Their main components are a rotating rotor and a stationary stator.
The rotor is a hollow cylinder made of conductive material or containing short-circuited wiring.
The stator includes two windings: working (main) and starting (starting). They are mutually located at an angle of 90 degrees, or have the opposite direction of winding - the so-called “bifilar”. Alternating current passing through the main winding creates a magnetic field with a changing vector.
If the rotor is not static, then, according to the law of electromagnetic induction, the motor will develop or decelerate torque, since the slip relative to the forward and reverse magnetic flux is different. Therefore, to maintain movement, alternating current passing through the working winding is sufficient.
If the rotor is stationary, then with the same slip relative to the magnetic fluxes, the resulting electromagnetic torque will be zero. In this case, it is necessary to create a starting torque. This is why a starting winding is needed.
The currents in the windings must be phase shifted, so a phase-shifting element is introduced into the motor - a register, inductor or capacitor. After the rotor reaches the required rotation, the supply of electricity to the starting winding stops.
Thus, to start a single-phase asynchronous electric motor, current must pass through two windings, and to maintain rotor rotation, only through the working winding. To regulate this process, a start relay is installed in the circuit in front of the refrigerator compressor.
Start relay broken
The starting relay is an element responsible for turning off the starting winding of the engine when it reaches 80% of the rated speed. When the start relay on the refrigerator breaks, the temperature in it begins to rise, which, of course, is a big problem for the owner. The relay on the refrigerator starts the compressor, which in turn regulates the circulation of freon.
A breakdown of the refrigerator relay may be a consequence of the appearance of carbon deposits on the terminals of the electric motor contacts. In such a situation, it is worth removing the relay to check the connectors for moisture and correct connections. The latter can lead to a short circuit and subsequently even fire of the element.
Several other reasons for relay failure are loss of elasticity of the bimetallic plate and breakage of contacts.
A breakdown can be detected by the following signs:
If these signs occur, the relay must be replaced , since this part should never be left broken, as this can lead to the failure of the entire device.
IMPORTANT! Replacing the relay must be carried out by a specialist, since in the process an inexperienced person can touch other important parts and disrupt their operation
Ice in the refrigerator
Many people are frightened by the appearance of ice in the refrigerator, and they would rather run to the first master they come across, who will be happy to perform a series of simple procedures with a smart face and get a good income for it. For refrigerators with a drip system, if used incorrectly, this is an absolutely normal situation. In fact, even in a refrigerator with know frost technology, such malfunctions occur ; there is absolutely nothing wrong with this if it happens no more than 2-3 times a year and the coverage area is small.
In this case, the refrigerator can be defrosted or a small layer of putty can be cleaned off. But if the situation repeats more often, it’s time to call for repairs, since there can be many reasons for this: failure of the defrost sensor or compressor, high load due to hot dishes, and wear of the seal.
Malfunctions of the refrigerator thermostat Indesit C132G016
A typical failure in the model is the failure of the thermostat. This is a housing part with internal relay contacts and a membrane. If the unit malfunctions, the refrigerator compartment does not work, and the temperature in the freezer drops. Due to the inability to analyze, the sensor sends incorrect commands to the module. The compressor may run without stopping, which will lead to its breakdown. The motor does not turn on if the sensor does not give a start command.
The thermostat cannot be repaired and must be replaced. To do this, disconnect the refrigerator from the network and replace the sensor according to the operating instructions. We suggest watching a video on replacing the thermostat on a refrigerator.
Rules
- Do not carry out the procedure of completely cleaning the household appliance and disconnecting it from the power supply for a long time if the room where the unit is located is too hot (cold). Temperature changes can negatively affect the performance of the compressor.
- If your refrigerator is equipped with two cooling circuits, then defrost the chambers one by one. A refrigerator with one circuit will have to be disconnected from the network.
- To speed up the defrosting process, use a hair dryer: a household device will help quickly dry the moisture inside the device and help equalize the temperature difference between the inside of the unit and the room.

Malfunctions of the Indesit refrigerator-freezer using R600a refrigerant
What refrigerant is used in the refrigerator is a question that is rarely asked. There are 2 types of refrigerants used in refrigerators for Europe and Asia. Freon R134a replaced the banned R12. It is believed that it destroyed the ozone layer. With the advent of the new component, capillary tubes began to clog more often. It is believed that freon reacts with the oil that is in the system, creates a sediment, clogging the capillary in 5-6 years. Isobutane, a grade of R600a refrigerant, does not have these disadvantages. The unit operates quietly, the filling volume is 30% smaller. However, in the event of a leak, repairing the device is more expensive. The gas is explosive, equipment for working with it is more expensive. Isobutane refrigerant is more expensive than freon. For single-compressor, two-chamber refrigerators, refilling R600a is more reliable.

Compressor problems
The compressor is literally the heart of the refrigerator; without it, it cannot function normally. But with prolonged misuse, it begins to fail.
It is affected by power surges, improper operation of the refrigerator by its owners, and damage to other parts of the device. According to experts, you should not even try to repair this part - you should immediately replace it with a new one.
Due to such problems, the Indesit refrigerator may not freeze , which is certainly its main function and very frightens the owners. But changing the compressor will be much more profitable than buying a new refrigerator, so don’t be lazy to call a technician and have your appliances repaired.
The following rules will help extend the life of your refrigerator:
Malfunctions of Indesit BIA 181 NF
A model with an external condenser mounted in the form of a grid above the motor will last longer if the heat exchanger is thoroughly cleaned of dust and pet hair once a year.
If the Indesit refrigerator does not freeze, malfunctions may be detected:
The No Frost system in both chambers is located behind the wall of the refrigerator. Products are cooled by air flow, condensate is deposited inside the system. The main sign of a malfunction of the Indesit air-cooled refrigerator is the appearance of ice inside the chamber and an increase in temperature due to a violation of heat transfer.
After completely defrosting the chamber with the fan not working, it becomes clear:
If puddles form under the refrigerator, you need to check the integrity and serviceability of the condensate drainage system into the container installed on the compressor.
The appearance of frost in the refrigerator while the fan is running indicates a violation of the seal of the chamber. It is necessary to check the fit of the seal and its integrity. Adjust or eliminate door sagging. Choose a more correct operating mode. Optimally, select the middle setting.
The equipment gives an electric shock
The metal body is an excellent conductor for electricity, so sometimes it happens that when you go out for a snack at night, you can get very good money for it from your own household appliances. But if these are one-time cases, then there is nothing wrong with that - all objects accumulate a certain amount of electricity, and a random user can serve as a conductor. But if such “attacks” happen constantly, it’s time to sound the alarm.
Electric shocks can be caused by:
It is important to remember that before diagnosing, you need to disconnect the device from the network in order for the repair to be safe.
During inspection there are several points to identify a breakdown. First of all, you need to inspect and check the functionality of the socket from which the device operates using a probe. The wires come next; they are inspected for kinks, damage and breaks. If everything is in order, the next in line to be checked are the parts of the refrigerator itself. A master who understands the structure of this type of equipment will do the best job here.
Where does freon disappear?
Freons are mixtures of colorless gases that circulate in the refrigerator, cooling the chambers, evaporating and condensing back into liquid. Unexpectedly, detecting a freon leak is quite difficult; the gas has neither color nor odor
Most often, users pay attention to constant problems. They can be signaled by:
The two-chamber version of the refrigerator from Indesit is much more common than the single-chamber one, so these features are mostly characteristic of this type. To be more precise, a refrigerator-freezer with a bottom freezer most often fails just like this when there is a freon leak. The essence lies in its design: the cameras are connected to each other by a heat pipe. Freon moves along it between compartments and ends up in the refrigerator and freezer. Due to the appearance of vapors, corrosion forms on the pipe, which leads to gas leakage.
IMPORTANT! It is impossible to notice a freon leak by smell or color, but do not worry, because it is absolutely harmless to humans
