How to turn on self-cleaning of the Gorenje washing machine?

30.07.2018

The Gorenje concern is one of the European leaders in the production of clothing care devices: automatic washing machines and dryers, models with a water tank. The company was one of the first to produce devices in various colors, as well as with a touch screen for ease of management and control.

How to start washing in a washing machine?

As a rule, at the junction of the inlet hose with the water supply, a tap is installed that shuts off the water supply. You need to make sure that this tap is open, if it is not, then open it. Plug the washing machine into a 220 V network - after the laundry and powder are in place, you can plug the machine into the network.

"Self-cleaning" mode

It's no secret that your washing machine requires constant care. Housewives should not forget to ventilate the unit after each use and wipe off dust and moisture from the body. There is a special mode to help users. The self-cleaning program runs once a month, with the drum empty, but using detergents.

The machine manufacturer Gorenje recommends running the “self-cleaning” mode once a month.

To enable self-cleaning mode, you must:

  • remove everything unnecessary from the drum - there should be no things left in it;

  • pour powder into the detergent dispenser (in the main wash compartment);
  • turn the programmer to the “Cotton 95°C” position;
  • press the “Self-cleaning” button and hold it for 5 seconds;
  • start the cycle by pressing the “Start” key.

After this, the “home assistant” will begin self-cleaning. The program lasts a little over an hour and a half. When the cycle is completed, you need to pull out the detergent cuvette all the way and open the machine hatch for ventilation. The machine must dry out from the inside.

Using the self-cleaning function

Over time, any equipment requires cleaning and maintenance. The self-cleaning mode of the washing machine is a special function that allows you to clean the unit from grease, dirt and other contaminants.

The “Self-Cleaning” mode, present in most modern washing machines, was developed by the manufacturer specifically to remove insoluble substances remaining in the drum and tank.

Important: the drum must be cleaned at least once a year. If washing is done more often, then cleaning is required more often. Then the quality of washing will correspond to the norm, and the machine will remain in working order for many years.

To clean the machine using the self-cleaning function, you just need to start this program and wait until it runs, but remember that it will not deal with scale, but will only remove mold and grease from the internal surfaces of the washer.

To use the self-cleaning function you must:

Upon completion of cleaning, you should turn off the machine from the network and open the loading hatch for ventilation and drying.

The self-cleaning program cleans the inside of the machine and rids it of lint, hair and foreign objects. Since the mode provides for the operation of the unit at a temperature of 60 degrees, at a speed of up to one hundred and fifty revolutions per minute, its owner practically does not have to use commercial or folk cleaning products.

Self-cleaning from the point of view of the unit looks like this:

Experts recommend performing such prevention at least once a month. Important: manufacturers of most washing machines do not recommend using chemicals when cleaning the unit, in particular means for removing limescale and washing powders. An excessive amount of foam generated when using them can lead to leakage of the washing machine.

Many machines have a special button, pressing which immediately activates the self-cleaning process. The prohibition on using the self-cleaning program together with things in the drum is due to the fact that when this program is executed, the machine accelerates to high speeds, the drum makes uneven and sudden movements. If there is laundry in it, both it and the machine itself may suffer.

The laundry will smell fresh

All Gorenje washing machines have low temperature washing programs. Many housewives prefer to use them. Firstly, this allows you to significantly reduce energy costs, because there is no heating of water. Secondly, the duration of program execution is reduced by almost half. And thirdly, the fabric, especially delicate ones, is damaged much less, so the clothes last longer. It is advisable to use cold water washing for colored items to preserve the brightness of the shades.

Low temperature conditions have many advantages. But they also have disadvantages. If you constantly wash in cold water, and even use environmentally friendly detergents without aggressive components, good conditions are created inside the washing machine for the development of microorganisms. Mold or mildew may appear on the rubber seal of the hatch. When you remove laundry from the drum after washing, you will notice an unpleasant odor instead of the expected aroma of freshness. In addition, dark stains may appear on clothing, and white items often take on a gray tint.

To prevent these problems, Gorenje specialists have added a special SterilTub self-cleaning program to the washing machine menu. It is performed without loading laundry and completely destroys harmful bacteria in the washing drum. It is recommended to use the program at least once a month.

If you decide to turn on the SterilTub self-cleaning mode, you can add a little vinegar (200 ml) or soda (15 g) to the powder loading box. The program uses the maximum water heating temperature and lasts 112 minutes. If you turn it on regularly, your laundry will be perfectly clean even when washed in cold water, and you can forget about the unpleasant smell in the drum forever.

Special SensoCare algorithm

Models released after 2022 are equipped with SensoCare technology. This add-on allows you to optimize the basic programs: “Cotton”, “Wool”, etc. We are talking about the functions:

  • NormalCare. The mode selects the optimal combination of four washing parameters: temperature and volume of water, time and spin speed. This ensures better cleaning of all types of fabric.

  • EcoCare. Here the main emphasis is on economical consumption of electricity. By starting the mode, you can ensure that the machine “eats” 60% less kilowatts.
  • TimeCare. Suitable if things need to be washed quickly. By running the option, you can reduce the cycle time by 40%. Intensive washing is effective only for lightly soiled items. With this program, there is an increased water consumption.
  • AllergyCare. Due to several rinsing cycles and increased water consumption, complete removal of detergent residues from fabric fibers is achieved. By launching the option, you can forget about allergies to the powder.

The software “filling” of Gorenje machines helps housewives not only to wash their clothes efficiently, but also to minimize the hassle of caring for the washing machine itself. By launching “Self-Cleaning” in a timely manner, you can forget about the unpleasant smell from the machine and the accumulation of dirt on the internal parts.

Special programs

Depending on the situation, standard cleaning modes may not be suitable. Therefore, Gorenje washing machines have additional washing programs for special occasions. Let's look at their purpose.

  • Quick wash 17. By starting the program, you can refresh your laundry in just 17 minutes. Suitable for lightly soiled items, it helps housewives save not only time, but also energy. The water warms up to 30°C, the drum should be loaded incompletely. For full-size cars – 2 kg, for narrow cars – 1.5 kg.
  • Super black. Washing in this mode allows you to maintain the brightness of black items. The program is characterized by a slow spin and smooth rotation of the drum. Water temperature – 30°C. You can load no more than 2-2.5 kg of clothes into the machine.
  • Quiet wash. You can run the program even at night. Suitable for cleaning mixed fabrics of different colors. The water warms up to 40°C. Maximum load: for full-size machines – 3.5 kg, for narrow ones – up to 3 kg.
  • Against dust mites. The mode is ideal for washing pillows, blankets and other bedding and bulky items. Helps remove dead skin from fabric fibers. The water temperature is adjustable from 60°C to 95°C. Loading no more than 3.5 kg in standard machines, up to 3 kg in narrow units.
  • Baby clothes. Suitable for caring for the things of babies and people with allergies. A special feature of the program is several rinsing cycles. Water heating can be adjusted from 40 to 95°C. Full loading allowed as permitted by manufacturer.
  • Sport. Designed for washing sports uniforms made from different fabrics: cotton, synthetics, microfibers. The spin is performed at minimum speed, the water is heated to 30°C. Maximum permissible drum loading: for machines of standard dimensions – 2.5 kg, for narrow equipment – 2 kg.
  • Anti-allergy. The program was designed specifically for washing clothes that require special care. Due to high temperature treatment (up to 95°C), all germs are removed from the fabric, and several rinsing cycles help wash the powder out of the fibers. The permissible drum load coincides with the maximum.

Almost all Gorenje washing machine modes can be adjusted by changing the water heating temperature, spin intensity and the number of rinse cycles.

Understanding the features of each program, you can ensure high-quality washing of clothes. You can see how long a particular mode lasts on the machine’s display (by selecting the desired function) or in the instructions for the equipment.

Auxiliary modes

In addition to the programs described, Gorenye washing machines have auxiliary, independent options in their memory. You can run such modes when there is no need for a full cycle, or in a situation where you need an addition to the main wash.

  • Intensive soaking. When choosing this option, “soapy” water flows to the laundry from below and above. Due to this, the fabric is saturated faster.
  • Prewash. Necessary when clothes have difficult stains.
  • Water is a plus. Allows you to add multiple rinse cycles.
  • Mitigation. By launching the function, you can not only soften, but also starch things and saturate them. The mode ends with a spin; you can connect the “Water Plus” option.

Some Gorenje models have the ability to create custom programs.

You can record your own washing settings in the intelligence. User modes can be adjusted as necessary.

Regular modes

The functional “filling” of Gorenje washing machines varies depending on the model. Standard programs are available on all machines. A brief description of the options and washing modes is presented in the instructions for the equipment.

It is important to choose the right washing mode, focusing on the type of fabric and the degree of soiling of the laundry. In order not to spoil the item, you should figure out for which products this or that program is suitable.

  1. Cotton. The name speaks for itself; the mode is designed for cleaning cotton clothes, linen items, bed linen and towels. The washing temperature can be adjusted from 20°C to 95°C. When selecting a program, the drum can be fully loaded.
  2. Mix/Synthetics. The program is suitable for items made from synthetic and mixed fabrics. Ideal for people of color. The washing degree is adjustable to 60, the drum load should be half. For example, you are allowed to put a maximum of 3 kg of clothes in a machine that holds 6 kg of laundry.

  3. Handwash. The delicate program is designed for cleaning delicate, demanding fabrics. In this mode you can wash linen and wool items, silk, viscose, and curtains. Due to the smooth rotation of the drum, things are not deformed. The cycle temperature is adjustable from 20°C to 40°C. You can load 2-3 kg of laundry into a full-size machine, and a maximum of 1.5 kg into a narrow machine.
  4. Wool. Another gentle mode for woolen items and products made from a mixture of wool and other fibers. Suitable for washing sweaters, snoods and hats. The water is heated to a maximum of 40°C, the spin is minimal. In full-size washing machines, when choosing a program, you can load up to 2 kg of laundry, in narrow ones - 1 kg.

In addition to standard programs, the Gorenje washing machine has additional modes for special occasions. For example, when you need to refresh things as quickly as possible or treat fabric from allergens.

To combat scale in an automatic machine, I use “Universal Antiscale”. Domestic products are affordable and do their job quite effectively.

Maxim, 43 years old, Minsk

To solve the problem of unpleasant smell in the washing machine, I use fabric softener. I pour the product directly into the drum and start the “Rinse” mode. After two cycles, the unpleasant aromas of dampness and mustiness disappear.

Egor, 38 years old, Voronezh

Due to the constant humidity in the bathroom, mold forms on the cuff in the washing machine. I found the perfect way to deal with it. I dissolve 30 g of copper sulfate in 1 liter of water and apply the mixture to the cuff and other problem areas. A day later I start the washing machine without laundry, and the problem is solved!

What is it used for?

Servicing a washing machine, like other equipment, has its own nuances. For example, it is necessary to ensure that the moisture remaining after the completion of the cycle has time to erode or be removed well in time. Otherwise, taking into account the microparticles that appear after dirty clothes, it will become an excellent breeding ground for bacteria, as well as various unpleasant fungi. Typically, washing is done at temperatures ranging from 30 to 60 degrees. Such indicators are not enough to wash out particles of dirt and bacteria from the tank.

Manufacturer information

The name of the brand comes from the Slovenian village of Gorenie , where today's largest engineering company producing household appliances is located. Large production workshops are concentrated in the city of Velenje, where the company's head office is located. The company produces more than one and a half million items of large home appliances per year. Only 5% of the output remains for sale in its own region, the remaining models are intended for export to the countries of the European and Asian basins.

The production has been successfully existing and developing harmoniously for half a century . The production began under the brand of agricultural machinery, but gradually the company switched to the production of household appliances. In 2002, Gorenje was awarded an award and given the honorary title of the most environmentally friendly manufacturer in Slovenia.

The first washing units began to be produced by the company in the seventies of the last century, marked by the ideas of freeing women from backbreaking housework. Just six years later, the production of washing machines reached a record number for that time - 200,000 units per year.

The washing machine independently controls the operation of individual functions during washing. If a malfunction is detected, the device will notify you of this: both signal lights will begin to flash in a certain rhythm. The rhythm depends on the specific malfunction. The user can correct individual errors independently, so pay attention to the rhythm of the light bulbs blinking, taking into account intermediate intervals. The device signals the presence of a malfunction immediately after it is detected and stops the program, except in cases where the malfunction is in the heating system. In these cases, the washing machine will complete the wash program, but without heating the water.

Errors: 2 - lights flash twice: the door is not tightly closed, 3 - lights flash three times: water does not enter the machine, 7 - lights flash seven times: water does not drain from the machine. You can fix these faults yourself (see fault table).

1 - lights flash once: temperature sensor malfunction, 4 - lights flash four times: drum speed sensor malfunction, 5 - lights flash five times: motor malfunction, 6 - lights flash six times: heating element malfunction. If these malfunctions occur, turn off the appliance, turn it on again and repeat the washing program. If the error appears again, contact an authorized service center (the lights flash until you turn off the device).

The machine may report errors due to external faults (for example, power outages). In this case: - turn off the machine, wait a few seconds, - turn on the machine and repeat the washing program. If you cannot resolve the error, call a specialist from the service center.

The warranty does not apply to malfunctions resulting from external factors (thunderstorm, lightning strike, instability of the electrical network, natural disasters, etc.).
