Error codes for Zanussi washing machines (Zanussi) - decoding and what to do

Zanussi washing machines are reliable and durable. But they also have breakdowns, or emergency situations arise. In this case, error codes are displayed on the display or displayed by lighting or blinking a combination of LEDs on the control panel. Note that Zanussi SMAs have the same platform as AEG and Electrolux.

Water heating failure: main fault codes

CodeExplanationCause
E61During the allotted period of time, the water was not heated to the required temperature.

Important! The error can only be determined in diagnostic mode.

To remove error E61, eliminate the cause of the breakdown - heater failure. To do this, check the resistance with a tester.

The meaning of error E62 is water overheating.

The cause of the breakdown may be a breakdown of the heating element on the housing.

Error codes for Zanussi washing machines without display

Not all models are equipped with a display on which the error can be easily read. But on machines without a screen, the code is also displayed, but only with the help of a light indication. This may cause certain difficulties, especially considering that it produced three platforms. And on each of them the faults were displayed differently. Let's figure this out.

Controller EWM2000

You can determine this platform using the control panel. It has a vertical row of 8 LEDs on the right.

CMA panel with EWM2000 controller

The first four lights indicate the first digit of the error, the next four indicate the second.

Decryption occurs using a hexadecimal code table.

codes

Code table

The first letter E, which in English means Error, is not displayed. It is the same for all values.

Below is an example of error E41. You can match the glow with the table.

Example of error e41 on the control panel

Control based on EWM1000 module

This case is a little more complicated because the fault is indicated by a sequence of two lights flashing. At the same time, sound signals are emitted.

The “END OF WASHING” indicator informs about the first digit, and the “START/PAUSE” indicator indicates the second digit. The pause between blinks is 0.4 seconds, and between series is 2.5 seconds.

In this case, you need to count the number of blinks and compare them with the values in the table presented above.

Control panel based on module EWM11xx, EWM21xx, EWM25xx, EWM35xx

The fault is indicated by a series of flashes of the START/PAUSE button. Flashing red corresponds to the first digit of the error, and green light corresponds to the second digit of the code. Pauses in one series are 0.5 seconds, and between them - 2.5 seconds. Below is an example of a control panel from this series.

SMA panel with ewm 2100

And in this way error E43 is read.

Example of displaying error e43

Note that in AEG washing machines, the blinking is not carried out by the button itself, but by the indicators located above it. Reading occurs in the same way.

Error codes for Zanussi washing machines - decoding and what to do

Zanussi washing machines are equipped with a self-diagnosis system. If a malfunction is detected, the equipment displays a code consisting of letters and numbers on the capacitive screen or, in the absence of a display, reports a breakdown by flashing indicators. To understand which unit is faulty, you need to refer to the user manual, where the error codes of Zanussi washing machines are deciphered. Having identified the faulty link, the user will be able to understand whether it is possible to repair the breakdown on their own or whether it is worth turning to professionals for help.

Basic malfunctions and their elimination

The listed malfunctions of Zanussi washing machines are quite common, but most owners can fix them themselves.

Problems with the flow and drainage of water from the tank

The most common malfunctions of units are clogged inlet and drain filters. Unfortunately, the Zanussi CM inlet strainers are not designed for the poor quality of domestic tap water and after some time they become clogged, and the equipment displays error codes E10, E11 or EF4. To prevent this from happening, install an additional filter with a water softener between the water supply and the ACM inlet.

To clean the inlet filter mesh from dirt, remove the inlet hose from the fitting and carefully remove or unscrew the filter using pliers. Rinse the mesh under strong water pressure, then replace the filter element. If the error code does not disappear after this, check the water pressure in the water supply.

The appearance of error codes E20, E21 or EF1 indicates that it is time to clean the drain filter from dirt and fabric fibers. This is done simply:

  • forcefully drain the remaining water from the tank;
  • open the plug in the lower right part of the front wall;
  • Unscrew the filter and clean it of foreign objects, fibers and dirt.

It is advisable to carry out this operation after every 2-3 washes. Before washing items, always empty your pockets to prevent their contents from falling into the drum.

Hatch door malfunction

The door locking device breaks due to wear and careless handling (errors E40–E44). You cannot close the hatch abruptly or forcefully - this is the main cause of breakdowns. UBL can be purchased and replaced independently. To do this, you need to partially disassemble the Zanussi washing machine in the hatch area:

  1. Open the door, and to the right of it, unscrew the two screws that secure the UBL in the housing.
  2. Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry the spring clamp holding the elastic sealing cuff from below and remove it.
  3. Pull out the cuff on the right side with your fingers.
  4. Place your hand into the gap formed between the tank and the body of the machine.
  5. Remove the UBL and disconnect the connector connected by wires to the control circuit.
  6. Connect the new locking device and install it in the seat.
  7. Reassemble all parts in reverse order.

Sometimes the cause of UBL inoperability is damage to the triac in the electrical circuit of the control unit. In this case, it is better to entrust diagnostics and repairs to a qualified technician.

How to replace or correct a drive belt

When the drive belt wears out, the sound of the motor spinning can be heard, but the drum does not rotate smoothly. How to disassemble a Zanussi washing machine to get to the belt and check its condition? To do this, just remove the back cover of the machine.

Replacing the drive belt is simple: you need to remove the old part and put on the new one. First, the belt is put on the electric motor pulley, then carefully on the large drum pulley. A belt that has fallen off can be corrected in the same way.

Problems with filling and draining water

  • E10 and E 11. These codes indicate that the water supply system to the drum is broken in the Zanussi washing machine. They appear if within 10 minutes the amount of water does not reach the required level.
  • During the drying process, water enters the drum. Usually appears 10 minutes after the start of the process.

  • E20 or E21. These error codes can be seen if, 10 minutes after the end of the wash, the process of draining the water has not begun. E20 also indicates problems that may have arisen during the draining process, such as a clogged hose or a faulty pump.
  • During the drying process, condensate that appears is not removed.
  • E23 - the element that controls the operation of the pump (triac) has failed.
  • E24 – the triac track burned out.
  • EC1 – for some reason the filling valve was blocked.
  • EF1 – the filter or hose is clogged. This code also appears when water is drained for longer than expected.

The habit of using an automatic washing machine “sparingly” can lead to the appearance of an unpleasant odor in it. Washing at temperatures below 60℃ and short rinses allow fungi and bacteria from dirty clothes to remain on internal surfaces and actively multiply.

The dishwasher cleans more than just plates and cups. You can load it with plastic toys, glass lamp shades and even dirty vegetables, such as potatoes, but only without using detergents.

The easiest way to remove scale and carbon deposits from the soleplate of the iron is with table salt. Pour a thick layer of salt onto the paper, heat the iron to maximum and run the iron over the salt bed several times, applying light pressure.

Before removing various stains from clothing, you need to find out how safe the selected solvent is for the fabric itself. It is applied in a small amount to an inconspicuous area of the item from the inside out for 5-10 minutes. If the material retains its structure and color, you can move on to stains.

If your favorite things show the first signs of gestation in the form of untidy pellets, you can get rid of them using a special machine - a shaver. It quickly and effectively shaves off clumps of fabric fibers and returns things to their proper appearance.

Stretch ceilings made of PVC film can withstand from 70 to 120 liters of water per 1 m2 of their area (depending on the size of the ceiling, the degree of its tension and the quality of the film). So you don’t have to worry about leaks from neighbors above.

There are special traps to combat moths. The sticky layer with which they are covered contains female pheromones that attract males. By sticking to the trap, they are eliminated from the reproduction process, which leads to a decrease in the moth population.

Fresh lemon is not only suitable for tea: clean dirt from the surface of an acrylic bath by rubbing with half a cut citrus, or quickly wash the microwave by placing a container of water and lemon slices in it for 8-10 minutes at maximum power. The softened dirt can simply be wiped off with a sponge.

Threads made of gold and silver, which were used to embroider clothes in the old days, are called gimp. To obtain them, the metal wire was pulled for a long time with pliers to the required fineness. This is where the expression “to drag out the rigmarole” came from - “to do long, monotonous work” or “to delay the completion of a task.”

Changing the blocking device

replacement of UBL in SM Zanussi

However, error code E40 does not always indicate serious problems with machine components. Therefore, do not enter diagnostic mode immediately after the display shows an error. To begin, press the hatch door with your knee, gently but quite firmly. In some cases, after such actions, the machine begins to work as usual. However, if this does not help, diagnose the error using the above method, or check the malfunction of the machine parts yourself. It's best to start with UBL.

If everything works properly, then you have completed the task and now you know what to do and how to fix the problem. Error E40 can occur at any time, and the fact that you know how to act in this situation will significantly save your time.
